Spotnitz on X-Files 3

I saw it at the Mann Chinese in Hollywood, Friday evening of its second week in release. There were about thirty other people in the audience. I'd be shocked if X-Files 3 happens (I'd go see it, but I'd still be shocked).

I think "X-Files: Cigarette-Smoking Guy Was Right" would probably do better business, considering the subject matter. I saw the last one by myself; everyone I knew figured they might as well Netflix X-Files 2 since it didn't look like something they had to see on the big screen. But there's no better place than a big screen to see an alien invasion movie.

The franchise is dead, until JJ Abrams reinvents it.

Oh, he's already tried as "Fringe".

Young FBI agents Mulder and Scully meet in college. Someone has gone back in time to kill Mulders dad.

Whats that you say? they're not suppose to meet for another 6 years or so? ;)

I haven't seen XF2 yet, which speaks volumes as this used to be my favorite show :p I would absolutely look forward to an actual important movie showing the alien invasion they spent 9 years leading up to though! :D The question is how the hell will they get the budget necessary to do it justice after the "success" of the new movie?

I'm still waiting for an ending to the whole stupid mythology stuff. It'll never happen, but I can dream. :p

Like pretty much everyone I thoght X-Files 2 was a bit crap, but would still love to see some more.
X-Files 3 about the December 12th 2012 alien colonization would be awesome

I felt X-Files 2 was long the lines of "Here. Watch this while we work on the REAL big one. This'll hold you over. It'll keep the characters fresh in your mind until the ACTUAL next movie is released."

Even if X-Files I Want to Believe performs well on DVD, it's highly doubtful that it would be enough to give us fans the type of FX heavy closure.

Realistically the best I think that could happen is a cheap direct to DVD film, or a tv movie.

And I think that is an at best. Unless the film performs like a blockbuster on DVD..

X-Files was always at its best when it relied very, very little on XF and more on suggestion and misdirection. The closure for the mythology would by no means have to be "heavy FX" with the whole done-to-death spaceship and laser fight bullshit. Over-reaching and going for blockbuster special effects is what has made the two films kinda shit.

I think a well-written, tightly directed, 4-hour mini series low on FX and heavy on character and suspense would be the ideal way to conclude the mytharc and the franchise.

No, this person sends telepathic message backwards through time to the aliens, or whomever, so they can abduct Samantha earlier.

They should have made the last movie the alien invasion movie, and the second movie could be some direct to DVD prequel BS.

X-Files 3 will never happen, and if it does it will be so poorly made it won't matter.
