Sports team favorites and loyalties - post 'em

I am a huge sports fan (my bf hates it LOL!) but I am a HUGE hockey and soccer fan.

Hockey: Vancouver Canucks (NHL) (and I mean 100% of the time not just when we are winning)

Soccer: Juventus (Serie A), Italy (National)

Football: BC Lions (CFL)

I don't follow baseball and the NFL but I can sit and enjoy watching a game. If I had to pick it would be the NY Yankees for baseball and the Dallas Cowboys for the NFL.

F1: Ferrari

Booo

I'll let it go because you're Canadian, but that's it.

Go, girl! :techman:
Thank ya:) It's in my blood;)

Alidar Warlock~ LOL! I am not sure if you are booing my choices or the fact that I don't really follow it but let me explain on both accounts. I picked those teams because as a young girl that is who my uncle cheered for and because he was my mentor I naturally followed. Now that he is gone I continue to cheer in his honour but I am not a blind follower, I can see all the faults that the others do! As far as not following them it is more because I don't have the time and hockey, soccer and the CFL are enough to keep me busy but like I said I still enjoy watching a game if it is on. On a sidenote, with baseball I actually prefer to play the sport as opposed to watching it.

The team choices and the problems with them have a lot to do with the fact that everybody seems to follow them either because they were consistently powerhouses or that they had a family member who followed them (probably because they were consistently good). I'm trying to think of a Hockey example. I think it would be the equivalent of rooting for the Toronto Maple Leafs if you're from Canada (although the Leafs don't win all that often, so maybe the Red Wings are the evil empire of hockey?).

But I'll let it go since you're from Canada. Most of my hate of Cowboy fans are directed at fans in the Philly area where they should be rooting for local teams. I have nothing against Cowboy fans from Dallas or Yankees fans from New York.

I have what I consider to be a good reason to be a fan of the Yankees and Mets. It's simply because I love New York. I love New York, I love baseball, therefore I love NY baseball - simple logic, really :) . I mean, NYC is the only place I can afford to go on vacation (since I have family in the area), and it has two teams, so it was inevitable that I should be a fan of both.

And I don't buy into the Yankees/Mets rivalry, for two reasons:

1) Interleague play is rare. Logically, real rivalries can only exist when the two teams regularly play each other (like the Yankees and Red Sox), and these two don't.
2) I can't root against any New York team, because it would feel like being against the city itself. And I can't do that.

If I was into football, I'd be a fan of both the Giants and Jets, for the same reasons.

That's because you're not from New York. I'd rather not bring up that discussion again, let's just say that it does exist and leave it at that.

Cincinnatie Reds
Miami Dolphins
UNC Tarheels in basketball

Exactly. If I'd grown up there, it would be different. I fully admit that. But in that case, I'd be *used* to the place, I wouldn't have a tourist's obsession with it. So then I would have no problem choosing one team over the other.

In my case, I probably "should" be a Royals fan, since they are the closest to where I live (and they do have a minor league affiliate *in* Omaha). But the K is three hours away, and I'm not quite *that* dedicated.

There's absolutely nothing regarding sports loyalties that bother the shit out of me more than people who not only call themselves supporters of my club but also like our most hated rivals (both clubs being from the same city). I understand a lot of things, but that mentality is completely mysterious to me.

For professional teams, I'm a die hard Broncos fan all the way. They were the winner of the very first game I ever watched 12 years ago, and have been with them since. I'm also a certified Raider-Hater.

For college teams, the only one I really support is my college's volleyball team, though I think that has more to do with me working for the team and being friends with the players than anything.

Yeah, I grew up in New York. Everyone on my street loved the Yankees- my family and the family next door were the only Mets fans. We got a lot of grief. :p
