Sports team favorites and loyalties - post 'em

College sports, any: don't care
MLB: Red Sox
NFL: Patriots

Also support the Celts and B's, but am not rabid about basketball or hockey.

New England boy here, so Sox and Pats. Don't care for college sports, so can take that off the list. Will casually follow the Celtics, but don't really care that much, and don't care enough about hockey to fake it for the Bruins...

NFL: Green Bay Packers

MLB: Minnesota Twins

NHL: Minnesota Wild

College: Gophers for all, but I'm more of a casual fan when it comes to college sports. I'll watch and root for them (especially hockey), but I'm not a die-hard follower.

Not a fan of the NBA, but I'll watch the Timberwolves once in a while.

How did you end up a Packers fan?

My Grandpa was an offensive lineman for the Packers in the 1920's (and my uncle was drafted by the Pack, but didn't make the cut). Grandpa wasn't famous or anything, but mom decided we had to be Packers fans and none of us were going to argue with that.

Baseball: Yankees forever
Football: Jets

Wouldn't most Yankee fans pick the Giants, who used to play in Yankee Stadium? ;) (The Jets, OTOH, would seem to fit more with Mets fans, since they used to share Big Shea)

Why would I care where my team plays or played in the past. It's not as though I like a team based on where they play.

The Jets could play in a mudpit and they'd still be my team.

Might as well contribute my favorites...

NASCAR: Hendrick Motorsports (24, 48, 5, 88)
NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers
NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers
Hockey: Pittsburgh Penguins
Baseball: Cleveland Indians/Pittsburgh Pirates
College: Ohio State University

I'm going to talk about names that nobody here hears very often, but here they come:

Soccer: Juventus F.C.
Basketball: Virtus Bologna
I don't know if it counts as a sport team, but F1: Ferrari

Obviously, I support Italy in all international events (word cup, olympic games, etc)

As for US teams, I confess I have a soft spot for the Boston Celtics for NBA and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (both due to Leprechaunish sympathies), but I don't really follow them.

Baseball - NY Mets
Football - New England Patriots
Basketball - used to love the Knicks as a kid growing up in the 90s while they had those great teams. Now they suck, and I just like to watch a good game between two even teams.

Isn't that what Giant's Stadium is? ;)

Technically a garbage dump in a swamp. So, ya. :techman:

Ugh...I watched half of the Pats-Jets yesterday. What an uninspired game on both sides. The Pats got totally outplayed and deserved to lose. They had the same problem as last week - move the ball OK into the other team's territory before stalling on 3rd down.

Unfortunately, the Jets are a lot better than Buffalo and didn't hand the game over at the end like last week.

This team has me worried. Plus my favorite player on the team, Welker, was out with a balky knee. Though that Edelman fellow did a great job filling in for him.

Yeah but the location sucks. Not that I have a better idea where to put the place, but the Meadowlands are just kinda out there. Same problem I have with Citi Field.

I'm glad that at Gillette they put Patriots Place and the CBS Scene in there, so there's actually something to do other than pick your nose in the parking lot before a game. I take the train there though, so its irrelevant to me anyway mostly.

At least NJ Transit has a rail station out there now. Before, I think you had to take their bus from Secaucus Transfer to get there.

The new Meadowlands (are they calling it anything else?) looks really cool. I love how the inside lights up different colors depending on what's going on at the time - blue for Giants, green for Jets, red for a concert. I hope the outside will do that too, like at Allianz Arena.

Soccer: Juventus F.C.

I have a friend who's a Juventus fan. Not sure why.

BTW, what does the AC in teams like AC Milan stand for? I'm guessing something Calcio, but I don't really know.

Why are you supporting so many Irish teams? You're a crappy Italian! :p

Uninspired? Are you serious? The Jets' defense didn't allow the Pats to score a touchdown and totally dominated Tom (I suck out of the pocket) Brady.

Sanchez countless times showed excellent judgement on just about every blitz that came at him and he's proving to be a really smart QB.

So sure, uninspired if you're Pats fan I suppose, but a great game for football fans in general. Especially Jets' fans.

The "A.C." in A.C. Milan means Associazone Calcio.

I've been trying to follow football more lately, but outside of Fox Soccer Channel it's hard to do so (though ESPN's getting better about their football coverage). I can't really settle on any favorite teams because of sporadic coverage, but I'm kind of gravitating toward Arsenal in the EPL, and I like both Inter Milan and Roma in Italy's Serie A, and in Spain I like Barcelona. FSC doesn't get La Liga games, unfortunately, so I mostly only get to watch the Premier League and Serie A.

Basically I really don't like Manchester United, A.C. Milan, or Réal Madrid, so I tend to root for anyone playing against those three teams.

Oh, and I root for the New England Revolution in MLS, of course.
