Sports in Star Trek

I just watched that Voyager episode where Chakotay is a boxer, for the 1st time. Not a great episode, but clearly it's still a sport someone could be into

O'Brien Kayaks. Wesley & The Voyager officers are fond of skiing

After rewatching The Neutral Zone recently I found it interesting that Data responded to a question about the Atlanta Braves with “I believe he’s referring to television. That particular form of entertainment didn’t last much beyond 2040.” The implication seeming to be that with the death of television, organized sports also became extinct.

I always assumed that "death of television" meant everything simply migrated onto the Internet. Which is pretty much how things are now. Network TV is all but obsolete today.

As for sports? Meh. There will always be sports, that will never die. I simply ignore the (fleeting) lines to the contrary. I admit I'm biased, because I'm a baseball fanatic, but who the hell cares. As far as I'm concerned, there could be hundreds of professional baseball teams throughout the Federation, and the hell with any dialogue to the contrary. (I'd love to see the Klingons charge the mound... )

That said, I DO want to see what Parrises Squares actually is.

Since the Star Trek saga features so much Small Universe-ism, wherein anything vaguely similar must be solidly connected, I hereby propose that the guys with sticks in "Charlie X" are doing a practice/learning form of Anbo-jyutsu using padded "safety" versions of the standard staffs, and since they are beginners they aren't required to cover their eyes.
