Sponge Bob Square Pants Burger King ad....

Anyone else creeped out by the Sponge Bob Square Pants Burger King ad using Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby's got back."

This is the most VULGAR advertisement for Burger King I have ever seen. Our children will never eat there again.

Unless they're playing the song while you're in the restaurant, I doubt there will be a problem. :p

Besides, correct me if I'm wrong, but the full version of the song is rarely featured, is it? YouTube has the complete version, but I don't think that's the cut in the actual commercial. Doesn't the actual ad very heavily edit the song?

But to answer the OP..... I thought the commercial was hilarious, the first 5 times. They've played that damn thing to death, I can't stand it anymore.

The Burger King is creepy as hell, I hate SpongeBob with a passion, and I have no freaking clue what audience they're trying to target - child molesters?

Burger King's ads have been really weird and frakked up for several years now. But I guess it's working, because they keep coming up with some strange stuff.

Really? You have no clue?

Let me break it down for you.....

"Baby Got Back" by Sir-Mix-A-Lot was a HUGE song in the early 90s. It topped the charts and even landed him a grammy.

Now, all the people who were in their teen years and early 20s when the song came out are.... you guessed it..... parents.

So, BK does a spoof on an insanely popular 90s song to target young parents of..... you guessed it again!..... young kids.

So, what do young kids like? What's that you say? SpongeBob?

Wait! I've got it! Why not spoof the song, replace the lyrics to target young kids and hit both demographics at once?!

The kids have no idea that the song was ever controversial, and by today's standards it wouldn't be anyways. Parents don't mind the annoying childish lyrics because they're too busy laughing and remembering their youth.

This really isn't a difficult concept, marketing 101.

As evident by the fact that we're discussing it.... and can probably mention a handful of recent BK commercials from years past.

Think of the "$5 footlong" song from Subway ads. Let me guess, you hate that song? Of course you do, we all do, it's insanely annoying.

Making you happy isn't the goal of advertising, making you remember a product is.

I actually kind of like the $5 Footlong song. I've been to Subway way more often recently than I have Burger King. :p

Very. It's also stupid, bordering on offensive, and crosses over to offensive when you realize they're selling KIDS MEALS with it.

But is anyone as weirded out by the BK commercial as they are by this one?

  :wtf: :wtf:

I wish I could explain the look on my face whilst watching that.

Isn't it MORE effective, though, if people use their product/services after seeing the commercail? Sure, I may *remember* $5 Footlong but if it doesn't get me to BUY one then it didn't do much good, did it?

If I find a BK ad offensive and stupid I may remember it but if it makes me not want to buy food there then they shot themselves in the foot.

Oh, it's hilarious! Phonebook implants!? It cracks me up! I don't see anything sexy about those square-bottomed girls. It's like a bowdlerized Baby Got Back.
