So apparently the TARDIS is getting a redress in Season 9

I sort of felt that as we came to know my doctor a little bit more we needed to reflect that a little bit more in the environment that he lived in. I don’t think my doctor really fits in with the idea of a kind of Edwardian time traveler.

There are a few more elegant... think 60’s and more classic design things knocking around...and also I’m a great fan of the roundels, which I think look amazing so we’ve begun to bring them back.

I'm just glad that the changes we've gotten in "Deep Breath" and here are just modifications to the details and dressing of the set introduced in "The Snowmen," rather than a complete replacement. The current design is my favorite console room ever, certainly the only new-series one I've really liked, and I hope they stick with it for a long time to come, just refining its details a little but keeping the basic set intact.

Really? The RTD console room is my all-time favorite (TV Movie being a close second).

I'd put Series 7b's console room as my favorite, with 6th Doctor era's classic version as 2nd and the movie's version as third.

Really? The RTD console room is my all-time favorite (TV Movie being a close second).

Maybe it's because I grew up with the original series (well, since I first got to see it in my mid-teens), but I prefer the classic white, high-tech look to the self-consciously retro design of the McGann console room or the "organic" look and weird junkyard-bash console controls of the Eccleston/Tennant console room -- never mind the garish Seussicality of the original Smith console room. The "Snowmen" console room is the return of the classic aesthetic with a much bigger budget, and I love that. And now that the roundels are back, it's even more classic.

Thing is, the console has always been composed of random junkyard bits. It's just that, back in the 70s, BBC microcomputers were actually contemporary. From the POV of a Time Lord, there's little difference between using that computer or a bicycle pump. ;)

It's more a matter of the aesthetic to me as a viewer. The Eccleston/Tennant console was ugly as hell and its operations were idiotic. I like control panels that look like they're actually capable of controlling something.

And I like the round things. It's just not the same without the round things.

I liked the "grunge" look of hte Eccleston/Tennant console room it had a real organic look to it and the one from the TV movie. But really like the rustic wooden paneled one from the 14th season, it had a clean HG Wells style about it. but
i am getting alittle of all the recent changes, old console rooms would last for years.

Yeah, the wooden room from Hintchcliffe's last season was great. Add that as my second favorite, with the TV Movie's as number three.

I thought I was the only one who found it unappealing. I like the round things too, because they look very spacey to me.

I never could figure out what the heck was on the Tennant/Eccleston tardis console. Smith's was slightly better but still way too busy. I like the one at the end for Smith and Capaldi.

Yeah but the original console room controls had no real continuity until JNT came along, then they stopped moving the panels around. The red lever was unsed to open the doors and was later turned into a red pull out stop after redress in The Five Doctors.

Both the Eccleston/Tennant and Smith console rooms were superior to the current incarnation, especially in terms of materials used. The present set looks very cheap and plywood. On a purely aesthetic level, I also feel it appears far too cramped.

The season 9 changes do look nice, though. I'd like to see them break up the large smooth surfaces further – add texture or grating to the floor, break up the staircases with metal and glass, etc etc.

For me, this is like comparing ice cream flavours. They're mostly all good.

Didn't like the lighting in the season 7b console room. Was quite happy when they changed that; the season 8 console looks like it can do some cool sci-fi things.

Loved the season 5 console room, aside from the central column; I found it aesthetically displeasing.

I didn't like the lighting either. Too dark and gave off a coldness that didn't fit with Eleven's personality. I liked the use of the Gallifreyan symbols though. But no surprise, his first is my favourite. I loved the "Seussical and whimsy" vibe. It was beautiful.

I really liked Twelve's interior. It felt warm and cozy, and the squishy-TARDIS-brain-thing was so cool!
