Spoiler-filled "Walking Dead" TV series vs comic book debate

I don't know, we did have that possible aircraft sighting in the pilot and we did get clues as to what was going on elsewhere from Jenner. I'd be surprised if they weren't setting up some sort of mythology here.
I highly doubt those clues are indicative of a larger "mythology" beyond "the world is gone." No, the point of this series isn't larger ramifications of the zombie outbreak, but simply how small groups of survivors keep surviving in the face of it.

Well in an interview one of the producers said that asking if Rick saw an aircraft is an important question. I suspect that the show will develop a mythology even if the comic didn't.

I haven't read the comics, but I have some ideas about what the next season might hold.
1. The black man and his son from the first episode will turn up. Rick spends a lot of time sending him messages each evening. No point in showing that if he's not coming back.
2. I agree with others that Merl could be the Governor. He's an egomaniac and would get revenge by cutting off Rick's hand.
3. The medical center in Atlanta that was run by a gang of kids will recur in the plot line. They have medicine and equipment and would be a good location if someone wanted to carry on Jenner's research for a cure. Someone with a helicopter can drop supplies to them.
4. Jenner spent a long time whispering in Rick's ear, so it has to be something more complicated than Lori's pregnancy. When I saw the episode, I thought that Andrea was carrying the Zombie disease but that her body was fighting it off. She has some immunity to it, and that offers hope for a cure. And I think she knows it. I think she was bitten and didn't tell anyone. If the fuel for the generators hadn't run out, Jenner could have used her blood in his research.
5. They will find a military installation so they can get more guns, ammo, and food rations.
6. I think the next season could have packs of zombie dogs or rats that were bitten by the Walkers. Also, what happens if a mosquito bites a Walker and then bites a normal human?

I think they should mess with the heads of the comic fans a bit. At the beginning of the first episode, they can tell us that Jenner whispered about the pregnancy...thereby pissing off bloggers as it's something so mundane...then we'll find out at the end of the episode that Jenner also whispered something really mind-blowing like an alien invasion.

The Gale Anne Hurd interview with HitFix? I don't think her answer is indicative that the show may develop some sort of mythology. I think it's more likely that the helicopter represents another group of survivors that Rick and company will eventually come into disastrous contact with.

But I guess we'll see, eh? I don't mean to give an impression that I would be against a mythology; I am enjoying watching where the series deviates from the comics, so if it's done well, I'll stick along for the ride.
