to the spoiler that Scotty supposedly vaporised Portos?
I read that on the Star Trek XI board.

Scotty supposedly vaporizes a certain admiral's beagle. It's obviously not Porthos (since beagles have very short life spans), and I'm not sure that Archer is in fact mentioned by name.

Porthos lived to be as old as an elderly HUMAN?

Doubtful. Scotty isn't born until 2222 or thereabouts, 61 years after the NX-01 is decommissioned. And even THEN Porthos was over ten years old and starting to get up there. Unless Archer has Porthos put into a cryogenic freeze pound to keep him alive, this isn't happening.

I think the Archer's beagle reference in the movie has something to do with a past accident Scotty had nothing to do with killing Porthos.

The bit of dialogue we heard referenced involved Scotty doing something untoward to an Admiral's beagle while experimenting with a new sort of transporter.

It doesn't specify Archer.
It doesn't specify Porthos.
It doesn't specify that the beagle actually died in the incident.

I thought Archer's name was indeed mentioned, but I guess not. That doesn't make it an ENT reference, then.

Damn - rechecked the sources, and the dialogue indeed supposedly goes "It didn't turn out so well for Admiral Archer's beagle".

So let's amend that to "It doesn't specify Jonathan Archer". Could be his granddaughter for all we know. :vulcan:

It's probably just a shout-out to fans of the Star Trek TV series (in this case ENT); I wouldn't be surprised if there were more names thrown around during the movie for us to hear/find. :D

it is possible he is recounting a story he heard as demostration of an earlier incident similar to his.

we just know in some form enterprise is acknowledged.

If I remember the scene explanation at Trekmovie.com correctly, it was in the clips shown to press and is part of the first meeting of Kirk and Scotty. Both are on an ice planet and the bit about the beagle is part of the explanation for Scotty's 'exile'.

If they say the name "Archer," then it's definitely an ENT reference, whether it's actually Jonathan or someone related to him. I certaily hope that's not the only one.

"Archer." "Beagle."

Yep. That's Jonny and Porthos. No other explanation.

Now a T'Pol sighting or reference would be just as cool or a lot moreso! She'd be about 160 or 170 at the time Kirk and Spock went to the Academy and theoretically still alive, if looking almost the way her older, alternate self did in "E2."
