Spock's Brain..YES!!!

We just watched SPOCKS BRAIN, the Bluray version. And I have to say, even a crazy episode like this one seems 'better' with the bright colors and enhanced effects..

One aspect they nailed in this episode was great segment on the bridge when Kirk and the others discuss their situation. They never really had these kind of discussions that much, and seeing this one was really cool...and the rear projection of the stars, with kirk walking in front of them, was a nice touch as well..

So, still not one of the best episodes, but, having said that, ten times better than SHADES OF GRAY and oh, a dozen or so Voyager episodes!!!

I like "Spock's Brain" because it's funny. That said, it's no better than an average episode of Lost In Space, which means that it's far, far inferior to just about anything written by - oh, say, Brannon Braga other than perhaps "Threshold."

I love when there are serious discussions on Star Trek, especially staff meetings. They always make what's going on feel more important. I felt the meeting in "Balance of Terror" helped significantly in ratcheting up the tension making that one of the most effectively suspenseful episodes.

I loved the meetings in TNG too. I once worked in a place where I got to sit in at staff meetings around a big rectangular table and one reason I always enjoyed them is that they made me feel like I was at a senior staff meeting on TNG or Justice League.

As for "Spock's Brain", I don't hate it like many or love it either. I think it's a perfectly passable episode, although the premise is obviously ridiculous. Still, it's better than a lot of the garbage in season 3, and immensely better than what I consider the low points of the series - "And the Children Shall Lead" and "Plato's Stepchildren".

Never thought of this as one the great episodes but everyone to there own taste. But it was a good story and always worth watching, as for it being better than Voy or TNG, well that goes without saying if you are a TOS fan after all where would the others be without Kirk and and the gang (including Spock with or without a brain).

Gotta agree with you there. At least "Spock's Brain" has the redeeming value of being camp. "Plato's Stepchildren" is painful to watch, "And the Children Shall Lead" is just embarrassing, "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" is like sitting through a sermon, and "That Which Survives" is like watching paint dry.

I liked "Spock's Brain" cause it seemed like for the first half of the story, every cast member, with the obvious exception of Nimoy, had a fair chunk of lines.

However, the only person to really benefit from a lack of Nimoy was Jimmy Doohan as he got to go into the caverns with Shatner and Kelley.

The only thing that disappoints me about this episodes (besides the title) is that this was a genuine science fiction story that just needed a little rewriting to make it really come out.

The only good thing about this episode IMO is the creepy look in brainless Spock's eyes. Other than that it's my second least favorite TOS episode, the only one I dislike more is Turnabout Intruder.

Trust me, I am not saying this is a good episode. Its one of the worst TOS episodes, BUT, the scene I am talking about,when Kirk and his bridge crew are deciding what to do, is very well done and, I think, a preview of future TREK(s) and how problems are thought over.

ehhh Spock's Brain was one of those episodes where the writer was starting to run outta of ideas, but other that its Watchable.
