Spock

Love this book but it's surely the most off-the-wall crossover I've ever seen: Star Trek ands Here Come the Brides. If not for Mark Lenard there would be nothing linking these two television series at all.

Well, Mark Lenard, Robert Brown, and David Soul. Plus recurring appearances by Carole Shelyne, the Metron from "Arena." In the show, the heroic Bolt brothers were played by Brown, Soul, and teen idol Bobby Sherman, and Lenard's Aaron Stempel was the main villain, though he softened in the second season.

I think the crossover element is unduly focused on. I read it when I was twelve and just thought it was a very good novel with some time travel in it. Then I found the Internet and learned what was "really" going on, but it's still just a really good novel.

All very true. I was more or less referring to Aaron Stempel being a direct ancestor of Spock's, while concurrently being played by the same actor who portrayed Sarek.

I never realized it was a crossover (and have never heard of Here Come the Brides).

I just ordered Ex Machina and preordered Troublesome Minds. Thanks for the hints!

There's interesting Spock stuff also in The Lost Years by J.M. Dillard - if I remember correctly, it takes place just before Spock decides to go for the Kolinahr.

I never realized it was a crossover (and have never heard of Here Come the Brides).

It was an action/comedy that ran for two seasons, set in Seattle in the late 1800s. The lumberjacks of the area had no women to marry, so one hundred eligible bachelorettes were shipped in from the East Coast. A sizable bet was placed that all of the women would be married off within one year. As mentioned, Mark Leonard (Sarek) played the rich land baron who bet that at least some of the women would not be married in the time limit. Hilarity ensued. In Ishmael, a time-lost Spock lands in the middle of all this and is befriended by Mark Lenard.

I know season one of Here Come the Brides is on DVD - anybody know if there are any plans to release the other season?

^ TVShowsOnDVD.com is a great resource for TV on DVD. They have no info on a 2nd season release, though, and neither does Sony Home Entertainment's site.

Yeah, I love that site - should have thought to check there myself! Thanks for the reminder, though.

Ishmail brings back memories - it was one of the first ST novels I bought, and it was new when I brought it home. I selected it because it was a Spock-centric tale. I'd seen HCTB and remember Mark Lenard in it quite well - I thought he was quite the handsome devil. I had no idea there was a tie-in and was totally shocked and delighted to discover Stemple AND SPock in a ST book. It was quite an enjoyable read, to my surprise, even though the premise and HCTB connectionsounds like the absolute worst idea for a ST novel ever.

I've read most, although not all of the others mentioned. Thanks for pointing me toward some new ones as well as board member's own books - I'll be chekcing them out. I'm a lover of most things Vulcan and Rihannsu.

I thought after seeing XI that Orci must have read Spock's World and Sarek. He's admitted in interviews he read lots of the ST novels before collaborating no the script - he's also an admited Spock fan, oh happy day.

I met Lenard a couple of times: a lovely, absolutely delightful man taken from us much too soon...and even more handsome in person.
