"TNG: The Chase" not only states that they are related, but all of them are seeded from a single master race. Which might account for why they can cross-species procreate so easily. It might all have been part of the design brief.

Maybe Spock had lethargic sperm, or something. I don't know why his parentage has to factor into it. Spock may well have been shooting blanks, without needing the "hybrid" excuse. Perhaps, not every female character in STAR TREK is as fertile as the Great Plains.
