Spock-like alien in 1960's Cheer detergent commercial

Can it be verified that the commercial actually aired with that soundtrack? The audio was strange; all the lines seemed to be dubbed over. And I have a hard time believing that music would be chosen to accompany images of a product being pitched. I wouldn't put it past someone who found this commercial to redub it with Trek music and sound effects as a gag.

This link seems to point to the original version of the commercial, the audio is just a little off..

here's a youtube link to that original

.

as for this one...

well, you know.

but I think that may have been the point :)

The absolute dead giveaway is the transporter sound from the 1980's movies.

Now, that's more like it. I knew there was something fishy about that first version. The actual spot was clearly influenced by ST, but no way would a commercial from 1969 have actually used ST's music and sound FX. And you're right, I thought there was something off about that transporter sound, but somehow I didn't quite recognize it as the blatant anachronism it was. I guess I was just put off by how weird the whole thing was.

The first version I posted has the right sound, not the second one that was posted. BTW, you can download the first one for yourself and keep it too. Be warned-it's in Real Player format.

I thought the transporter sound effect was wrong.

Whoops! That's what I get for grabbing the first youtube link.

Thanks for the correction.

The funny thing is I remember that commercial. I never made the association with Trek, though.

Gold shirts and "Beam me up Scotty", two myths that refuse to die. :(

Well, in the third season, they stopped using the velour uniforms, and the avocado green tunics that looked gold on camera were replaced with tunics of a different fabric that matched the apparent gold color of the velour ones. So the gold shirts are not a myth, not entirely.

And Kirk does say "Beam us up, Scotty" in TAS: "The Infinite Vulcan" -- and "Scotty, beam us up" in "The Savage Curtain." So, almost.

I do not recall that ad. The effects and sounds were not close enough to the TOS ones to perhaps have me remember it?
