Guinan was portrayed as a character with a mysterious background and aura, so when she sensed something was wrong in "Yesterday's Enterprise," we (and Picard) could find that plausible. But the most intriguing question about this movie for me is: how does old Spock know the timeline is incorrect? And what exactly is he doing back in time?
I ask the second question because we assume that Nero's destruction of the Kelvin is what throws the timeline askew. So, if Spock could deduce for sure what happened, wouldn't his efforts to make things right simply center on preventing Nero from attacking the Kelvin? Instead, the solution (so maybe the problem) is more complicated than that.
After all, whatever Nero did to the timeline after destroying the Kelvin must not have been enough to satisfy him, because twenty-five years or so later, he appears again (from the future or fresh from destroying the Kelvin?) to attempt to destroy Vulcan.
-- Any educated guesses about what Spock knew and when he knew it?
-- Any guesses about why this timeline is apparently so hard to put right?
-- Any guesses about why simply preventing the Kelvin from being attacked must not be enough to make things right again?
