Spock as the Captain?

Spock's Barber

Rear Admiral

Suppose GR decided to cast Leonard Nimoy as the half human-half Vulcan Captain of the Enterprise, possibly with William Shatner as Second in Command. Do you believe that ST would have had the same dynamics with the starring roles reversed?

Then we would have TNG, a remote and unapproachable captain and a sort of frisky first officer. I'm not sure if Riker was Frisky but he was pretty Stiff coming out of the gate. (OK, maybe I should rephrase that).

Actually if we have the Spock from "That Which Survives", it could be quite entertaining.

Mr. Spock: Can you give me warp 8?
Mr Scott: Aye, sir. And maybe a wee bit more. I'll sit on the warp engines myself and nurse them.
Mr. Spock: That position, Mr. Scott, would not only be unavailing, but also... undignified.

That's one reason why I love TOS, but only just like TNG.

At that point in his career would Shatner have taken a second billing role in a series? Sure every actor is always looking for work, but wasn't Shatner aiming toward a "leading man" career?

I wouldn't mind Mirror Spock appearing in the Prime Universe and taking command of the E. He needs the goatee and the menace.

Nope. Nimoy wasn't leading man material. You needed a leading man back then.

Agreed. I also have a difficult time envisioning either Lloyd Bridges or Jack Lord as Captain Kirk. Both of those actors were considered for the part, but thankfully they turned it down. Bridges didn't think sci-fi would work on tv and Lord wanted a high percentage of the show's profits.
