spock and the transport

starbuck

Captain
Captain
Seen trek11 for the 5th time just something i noticed when spock goes to beam down to vulcan to rescue's his parents he goes to the turbo lift to beam down ,as he leaves the bridge kirk and sulu are in free fall .Now we see chekov saying he can do this and run to his right off the bridge down few corridors and into the transporter room where he beams kirk and sulu on to the pad ,just then spock walks in and tells them to clear the pad.
Now i was just thinking why did spock not go the same way as chekov did as it would have been faster to the transporter room.

what he needs his phaser and tricoder to know where to go on vulcan he is pressed for time why not have those closer to a transporter room to collect when you are beaming down

The fact is he took a tricorder and it's a good enough excuse as to why he took a different route. You wanted reason and explanation for his detour and i've given one.

There should be an equipment locker in the transporter room. Only makes sense. Maybe Spock stopped off to take a dump first.

Why is everyone going on about phasers. He went for his trusty tricorder which he's had since his academy days as a cadet.

It's really not at all clear why he took a phaser for a 'geologic disturbance', or to deal with a black hole, but i can vaguely understand a tricorder. IIRC he didn't use either.

Well, if there was a fallen boulder blocking his path or something, the phaser could vaporize it.

I only mentioned it because of the equipment locker seen in the kitchen in TUC. I was jokingly suggesting that he had to go to the kitchen to get his gear.

-- It's a new ship. In his state, maybe he got lost for a moment.
-- Chekov was running. Spock wasn't.
-- Maybe they have two transporter rooms. The first one he went to was out of service.
-- Or, as Kpnuts said, a bit of a goof. And, if it took you your fifth viewing of the movie to finally catch it yourself, then it probably sailed over the heads of everyone who was one-and-done with the movie. I've seen it twice, and it went by me both times. ;)

Maybe the turbolift was busy (which never seems to happen in Trek). I can see it now... Spock runs up to the turbolift... pushes the 'down' button... waits... watches the numbers above the door... tapping his foot impatiently... pushes the button over and over...

Fortunately, really, that the turbolift always seems to be there when somebody needs it, considering that there IS no button and the doors open automatically. If the lift was in use, then one of these days someone's going to break their nose on the doors, or fall into an empty shaft :)

Re: spock and the transporter

Are they any deck plans out yet of the new ship would love to see how she measures up to the tos E

He may not have really needed a phaser or tricorder, but he did need a communicator and just took the other two while he was there.

Spock also seemed to be a very "by the book" kinda guy, so he may taken what he did simply because that's what away mission protocal called for.
