Spock and emotions in next movie?

While Sylar is a good choice for the role of Spock he did mention that he doesn't plan to copy what Nimoy did. To me this is a good thing and possible a bad thing. What I worry most is that Spock will be more emotional. Granted Spock does have emotions but their is ovious a difference between how humans and vulcand deal with their emotions. What I worry about is Sylar will give a good acting performance but will actully be bad in the context of being a vulcan.

The key to Spock is that he isn't unemotional, that is only the surface, it's the emotions/subtext behind him that is key. Nimoy understood this. Martin Landu didn't when he was offered the role, hence why he turned it down.

I found it interesting that Quinto walked out on stage during the Paramount Pictures panel at the Comic-Con (moments after he was announced by Abrams as the new Spock) as if he had some kind of stick up his ass.

He was walking slowly and deliberately, as if he was playing some kind of tired robot.

He was dressed in a buttoned-down shirt with a blazer. Nimoy then came out in a similar blazer and a turtleneck that was a similar color to Quinto's shirt.

Then, two days later, when Quinto is announced at the Heroes panel, he comes running out on stage in a plaid shirt, high-fiving everyone on stage like he's just won the Superbowl.

So it seems like he was already playing the part of Spock when he first came out on stage on Thursday.

It's a new movie, with new actors and new folks in charge. If they just do a remake/imatation of TOS, I'll be disappointed. I can watch the originals and enjoy them more if that's the case.

So, I want this different crew taking a new spin on things. Otherwise, it won't be worth it. Batman Begins showed that taking the same set of characters in a new direction can work if done right.

The movie though is trying to walk the line though of being a prequel that connects to the rest of the trek universe while also being completely new. In essence I think they trying to do to "Star Trek" what has been done with the new "Doctor Who" series. You want to come away from this movie with the "This ins't my fathers "Star Trek" but you also want to feel like this is what really happened to Kirk and Spock when they were young.

Any actor would say "I want to put my own stamp on this role." To say the opposite would mean he has no faith in his abilities as an actor. Why would anyone hire someone like that. Yall are making too much of a statement that was simply expected and de rigeur.
