Splinter Cell: Conviction

Well, it's out today. Surprised there wasn't already a thread on it.

I picked up my copy today. Got the Shadow edition with the unlock code for the two bonus weapons and the shadow armor. It also comes with exclusive access to the Ghost Recon: Future Soldier beta when it's released in the summer.

Anyway, still got a few things to do today, but I'll be playing on it later, so I'll post some impressions.

Anyone play this already?

I just got past the Washington Monument level. So far I'd say the game is pretty awesome. it's also very different from the Splinter Cells before it. While I miss the old game play, the new game play keeps you on the edge of your seat and wanting more. Also, the new story telling methods used and the story itself are pretty damn good.

Well, I do want it, but I'm a PC gamer so it needs the "always on" internet connection apparently. It's doable but it just annoys me.

Having seen a few trailers for it, it does look good though:)

I'm loving this game so far. Great gameplay mechanics, and the "execute" maneuver is awesome. Wish you could still pick up bodies and hide them, though.

The story is unfolding nicely. Not sure how far I am into the game, but there are several secret achievements left to go so hopefully there's still at least 3 or 4 levels left.

Been playing it a bit, I'm up to the part where you're sneaking about in the car garage trying to avoid the cameras.

I'm having fun with it.

With it being cheaper on Amazon then having the Sneakret $5.00 off coupon from Amazon and the they $20.00 Ammy gave me back on Battlefield BC 2 I got it for $26.99 so that was a steal of a deal for me.

I just did co-op story and it was the most frustrating thing I've played in a while. I hope single player isn't like that, because god... it was so stupid.

Dunno what you mean by "frustrating", but me and my mate have been having great fun doing the co-op stuff.

So far, I've completed...

The SP Campaign on Normal
The first 4 chapters of the SP Campaign on Realistic
The Co-Op Campaign on Normal
The first 3 Hunter maps on Realistic (in Co-Op)
3 maps in Face-Off mode (which I won 2-1 )

I'm really impressed with the amount of content this game actually has. It definitely has enough to keep me interested for a while, and I'm pretty confident about going for the 1000G on it.

Apparently, there's going to be regular DLC for this too. Mostly in the way of weapons/uniforms/upgrades I think initially, but hopefully they'll introduce new Co-Op maps and scenarios too at some point.
It would be nice to be able to download different sets of goggles too. Some Thermal or Night Vision goggles would be a nice addition to the game.

I played it "wrong" by doing co-op first. Which is silly, but whatever.

Getting the armor upgrades and the weapons (I didn't even have the good pistol) helped tremendously on my Realistic co-op playthrough.

But if they want you to play single player first, they should just come out and say it and not leave me in the lurch with crap guns and no health.

See, I didn't have that problem, but that's because I never play MP on a game until I've done all (or a fair chunk) of the SP campaign at least once. By the time I'd run through the SP on normal, I had all but one of the guns, and had upgraded the Shadow Armor I got with the game.

A buddy and I have been doing the co-op the last few nights and having a blast.

So far I've played the SP on normal and have replayed several chapters to work on the P.E.C. stuff.

I still plan on re-playing the SP on realistic mode as well.

I have to admit I was very disappointed the SP was kinda short but with all the co-op content I'm more than pleased.

I've completed the SP on Realistic now, and me and my mate are 1 Hunter map away from completing all 6 on Realistic. We were playing it earlier, and got right to the end of the final map, when the fucking connection went. :scream:

Still pretty confident about getting the 1000 on it. I watched the Insider video on XBL, about getting the "Last Man Standing" achievement. Looks like that one could be a bit of a bitch, though.

I play MP first mostly because you never know when a game will die on Xbox Live. In a few weeks, everyone might be back to MW2 or whatever.

Can't say I've ever encountered that problem, but I suppose it's a fair point. Depends on the game, I guess. Although I think it's less of a problem with 2-player co-op, seeing as you only need one other person.

Well, I finished all the multiplayer stuff now, so I guess it's one less worry. It was just annoying to finish the multiplayer game completely underpowered. :p
