Spin-Off Confirmed!

though would they do it without john barrowman since he's been PNG'ed over his behaviour.
IIRC, there were rumors a while back indicating Eve Myles was in talks with RTD about something. A revived Torchwood with Gwen as the lead could potentially work. I'd be willing to check it out anyway.

And writing this, I'm realizing how amusing it might be to see the Peanut Gallery contort themselves with nonsense like "AHH! Female lead! Woke garbage! Bring back Barrowman!!!"

Ugh...except Gwen was always my least favorite character of the show (except before Owen's redemption). I hated how all of the characters I loved kept dying and yet she stuck around.

And it's not that I don't like Eve Myles as an actress. She was terrific in the recent Idris Elba miniseries Hijack. I just loathe Gwen.

Obviously UNIT is an option, as is resurrecting Torchwood. I've seen rumours about a previous Doctor returning, so something like a McGann series. Whatever it is I hope it has a tone and sticks to it. SJA worked because it understood the assignment. Torchwood, outside of Children of Earth, often failed to work because it was tonally all over the place. And Class failed because it probably never should have been a Who spinoff in the first place (would still kill for a Miss Quill spinoff of a spinoff show of course).

If it were a prior Doctor series that would be problematic, if only because it would somewhat detract from our first (lead) Doctor of colour, in the same way bunging Bradley Walsh into the Tardis detracted from Whittaker to some degree.

I mean an 8 word title just says one thing to me:

The Paternoster Gang of ye olde London Town.

;)

I will make the bold statement right now that whatever this spinoff is, it is not a McGann series. And I will stand behind that statement, 100%.

Now watch it turn out to be something that stars Paul McGann, but as a completely different character, not the Eighth Doctor.

I didn't know that the Sea Devils were a fan favorite. Personally I could have done with less of them.
Interesting to see what they come up with.

With everything happening at Marvel and streaming and all it seems an odd time to be throwing out spinoffs to series that haven't even aired yet. Though RTD always seems to like to have a lot stirring the last time (Who/Torchwood/Sarah Jane/etc.).

UNIT, McGann, or an Ace/Tegan/Mel spinoff seem to be the top contenders. McGann seems the least likely to be the first spinoff. But perhaps a limited miniseries run down the road?

Perhaps the 8 word title is: Ace, Tegan, and Mel Help Kate at UNIT

But we really have little to no concrete information to go by.

Well that combined with the hard financial times all streamers including D+ are facing! It does seem like a shift occurred. Trek has definitely lessened its output as a result.

A DW spinoff was imminent but then it wasn't. Although, it's hard to tell if that was an actual shift or just an artifact of overhyped media with no real information colliding with the real word? But overall, the amount of streaming content is on the decline.

Doctor who is too slow.

A special every couple years or a 6 episode season?

We might as well be back in the wilderness.

A new show that is almost not quite doctor who can be be cheaper and lighter and they can put 12 episodes and special every year, and we won't spend three years between episodes any more wondering if the show has been cancelled?

I would imagine the spin-offs would probably be similar to Doctor Who now, in that they air in Britain on one of the BBC channels and Disney+ only handles the international distribution.

Hmmm.

Are we certain that we Apes are the representatives of "the land" in this story?

(Cave dwelling) Silurians vs. Sea Devils?

Also...

Are the Air dwelling Silurians ever going to make an appearance on Doctor Who?
