Does anyone else see the supreme irony here? The "Channel for Men" has just moved what's probably the most "masculine" of the three Star Trek series they have off to limbo. :p

I see the bright side of this. Now maybe some those fans who only ever watched (the heavily butchered version of) DS9 on SpikeTV might go out and find some alternative means of watching DS9 uncut and hence finally see all the cool scenes/parts of scenes they have never seen before.

I thought they stopped marketing it as the Network for men.

And in the meantime are bending over backwards to run more and more testosterone-packed movies and shows.

Some people prefer to stay legal and not pirate, but also can't afford to spend big dollars on renting/buying a whole series.

They did pay the least for Deep Space Nine while they paid a great deal for TNG and Voyager. If I recall correctly they paid close to a million for each episode of TNG and Voyager, but only 100,000 or so for each episode of DS9. I remember though it was an extraordinary amount in the end.

To be honest though I'm not surprised that they're treating DS9 this way. They've always treated it horribly.

During first run:
Had several showings a day, but was replaced within weeks in favor of CSI

Second and Third runs:
Multiple schedule changes

Now:
Single showing at 10:00am and moving to 3:00am

While I am disappointed that they are moving the show I am glad that it is still on at all. Spike has not treated DS9 well since its inception on the network. However, watching it again on Spike is what allowed me to finally see the seasons I missed and gave me a whole new appreciation of the series. It is now my favorite of all of the ST series due to its availability on Spike, so I won't say too many bad things about the network.

There is no way Spike TV paid one milion for VOY and only 100,000 per ep for DS9. I tend to doubt there was that big of a difference between TNG and DS9's purchases but at least I could more easily believe that. But VOY? A series whose ratings, if better than DS9's at all, were only slightly so? Hell, no. And there isn't any buzz for VOY at all. With Trek increasingly falling out of favor why would Spike pay so much for VOY after paying so little for DS9? It wouldn't make sense.

^If memory serves, the price tag for DS9 reruns was indeed high, not equal to TNG, but nowhere near as low as 100,000.

I'm guess the episode info came from SpikeTV's own website...Zap2it, Yahoo, nor Wndows Media Center guide, has DS9 airing within the next 2 weeks... :(

On CityTV in Canada they started airing DS9 again a few months ago at 5AM and 11AM, two timeslots when hardly anyone is watching. Based on this I conclude the price for stations to buy DS9 can't be that high, otherwise CityTV wouldn't have bought it just to show it in dead timeslots.

I'm sure the move sucks for a lot of people, but since I'm not a morning person, it works well for me. Now I can once again get my daily (or nightly) DS9 fix.

Found the information in Variety (thank god for EBSCO Host):

Spike TV paid 364 million dollars total for their Star Trek Package.

TNG: $1,000,000 per episode

DS9 and VOY: $500,000

They paid 1.6 million per episode of CSI and 1.9 million per episode of CSI: New York

Now that you mention it, I remember readig about that too, in late-2000.

Why no love for DS9 on TV? They play the hell out of TNG and TOS, it's getting to the point where I'm sick of them, I think Enterprise and Voy are getting better treatment! I wish I could afford the DVDs.
