I don't understand their need to reboot anything either. Just have it take place a few years after Spider-Man 3 or something.

I suspect they'll stick with the numbers while Tobey Maguire is in the role and then switch to a different title scheme when they bring in a new lead actor.
I still can't believe they're doing a 4th one. If it gets all the way to 6 I'll do a backflip.
I agree. I think Hollywood is a little too reboot-happy lately.
Have it be like the first 4 Batman movies (except actually make them good). You can have new actors without acknowledging the fact that you have new actors.

Marvel & DC in the last 10-15yrs would change a creative team and BAM #1. Restart the title, even long standing ones like Amazing Spiderman, Incredible Hulk, Thor & Daredevil have had a few #1's now. In an odd accounting way someone at Marvel has realized the loss of prestige that so many collectors gave to the numbering and now they are putting those numbers back, but I digress.
No reason Sony can't keep the story moving forward with new actors if/when the need arises. Cause any reboot is going to give us orign(in some manner) and all the beginning's trappings in some manner and the audience does not need that really.

The third film's worldwide gross of $890 million left no doubt that there would be a fourth film.
I had no doubt that there would be a fourth movie...it was just a matter of finding a decent story that Rami would be happy with and what villans to be use, along with if the cast would be back and it looks like they will be. I know Spider-Man 3 sort of addressed where Peter and MJ are but I hope there is a further addressment of their relationship or have Peter move on.

Morbius & Lizard are two characters that Rami can play to his horror roots on like he did lightly in pt.2 with the Doc Ock operating room awakening moment.
Vamps are always in and currently they are as big as anything with Twilight, Underworld, True Blood and RDJ being cast as Lestat. May as well let Spidey have a go at the undead.

A) Were having difficulty coming up with a plausible way of resurrecting Dr. Octopus. Or...
B) Wanted to try the Venom story again, but this time not totally fuck-shit it up.
Otherwise, rebooting seems totally unnecessary. There's nothing so binding in these movies that it couldn't be smoothed over or ignored in some clever comics writing.

We never saw Doc Ock's body...hah..and it's a comic book film. I would love it if they brought him back somehow as the Master Planner.

Brand New Day is about ERASING a big event in the life of Spiderman and changing others, like Harry now being alive.
A Spidey film reboot would just be a retelling using the traditional elements of Spidey's actual history. Maybe even make it more correct by starting with Gwen as his first girlfriend and MJ was that untouchable friend next door. Not even have Green Goblin as the first villain.
I can't stand Spiderman 1, garbage on every level and Spiderman 2 isn't much better.
They should have a 4th movie to close up the storylines they would like, and then make a new trilogy with 5-6-7 and call it "The Amazing Spiderman". But not for another origins storyline!!! For the love of god no!
