Spider-Man movie (casting, rumors, pix till release)

I can't believe I'm going to be such a nerd, but here goes:

If one of Spidey's powers is to cling to vertical surfaces and stuff like that - it is, isn't it, I'm not misremembering? - don't cleats or tread or whatever on the bottoms on his boots just make it more difficult rather than improving his traction or something?

I believe that in the early comics Peter's powers extended over his clothing as well so that no matter what he wore it wouldn't impair his powers. I don't have an issue or link to back this up I'm just going off poor memory. Besides which I'm sure the traction sections on his boots are just for show. Maybe a practical purpose for them will be explained in the film.

Now definite. I hate this costume.

I'm liking it more and more myself. The blue and red gloves are a bit too sporty perhaps, but everything else looks fine to me.

Same for me. It's growing on me more and more as I see more pictures of it.
Wasn't Spidey's climbing and clinging power supposed to be more of a mental thing when the comics first started? I swear I remember reading that somewhere.

In the comics, his "boots" were skin-tight stocking through which his power worked. He was commonly depcited taking off his shoes to crawl walls while not in costume.

^You seem to be agreeing with me, but that's the opposite of my point. In the comics, it was strongly implied that his feet didn't stick to things through normal shoe soles. That's not to say he couldn't climb a wall with shoes on (as he first did in AF #15)...but he'd be relying more on his hand-clinging, strength, and simple, non-clingy traction where his feet were concerned.

It's too bad that the costume aesthetics in the new Spidey suit weren't used for the live-action Flash, rather than that Burtonesque muscle suit that, IIRC, didn't even have defined boots in the pilot....

^ My mistake, I misread your post. I do remember plenty of issues where Peter would take off his shoes to wall crawler so indeed you're correct. In fact the wedding annual I believe has a famous panel of Peter running on a wall shoeless.

The idea for the skin tight suit was so the tactile nature of his powers (shown as hairs in the Raimi films) would be able to penetrate the spandex. Hence taking his shoes off, rubber soles of 1/2" thick or more would prevent his power of wall crawling.

So, being ubber geeks about it we are all mostly going, so the rubber nubs on the boot eh? Not working for us.

Not me. I like the suit, including the boots. I think some people were looking for an explanation of them which you gave Captain Craig.

Still amazing to me that there were four major superhero movies filming at the same time for awhile there.
