Spoilers Speculations On Upcoming Episodes

Henlo!

So, the synopsis for episode 4 on Trekmovie reads as follows:

And I wonder - who could this "beloved but infamous" Star Trek species be? I know we're gonna find out soon enough, but humor me! (And please, although this may be a lot to ask - no hints please from those who have already seen it!)

Who could it be? I'm going with the Klingons!
Tribbles is my guess.

Pretty sure it's the Klingons, and about "purity of blood", "remain Klingon", etc. Perhaps they'll even mention their ancient attempts to overcompensate for the augment virus effects :D
There could be social pressure to have a lot of "pure" babies, like a 10 child policy, and the queer Klingon left because of that.
It could even be a social commentary on real parents kicking out their kids because of who they love.

The Tribbles finally got their revenge

Should we continue with speculations for E5? Rename the thread to something more general like "next ep speculation" and keep it going?

I expect Sisko to show up not just by voice, but minimally as a clear picture, not just obscured like in the trailer. I'm even somewhat sure we will indeed see DS9 itself. And we probably will get a vague riddle answer about what happened to him, but with a hint that he did return and see Jake and his new kid (Newsome?) from time to time, and that he's still out there... for the finale? :D

I dunno, isn’t that what the preview thread is basically for? Us reacting to the bits and pieces of upcoming episodes and speculating about what will happen?

I thought the preview thread is for officially released trailers, clips, pictures, and this one is for 100% nonofficial wild imagination :D

Okay, if that’s what you guys prefer I don’t want to stand in the way of your bliss. :) Renamed the thread.
I created the thread and I specifically wanted to speculate about episode 4 and the "beloved species". So as the original poster, that's not my bliss. :P

“We are assembled here today to pay our final respects to a thread we once knew by another name. And yet it should be noted that, in the midst of our sorrow, this ending takes place in the shadow of a new thread with a new name. A new thread that our beloved Episode 4 speculation thread gave its life to protect and nourish through countless posts. It did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate its profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of my thread, I can only say this: of all the threads I have encountered in my browsing history, this was the most ... online.”

FWIW, the reason I suggested including the spoiler warning is because this is likely to happen:

"Okay, here's what I think will be the season cliffhanger, given that we saw XXXXX bite the big one in this week's episode."

"WTF, a lot of us haven't seen that yet! Think of your fellow posters who aren't so fortunate as to watch when the episode drops!"

FWIW, the reason I suggested including the spoiler warning is because this is likely to happen:
Well, we already have the bright orange (or red, depending on the forum style) “Spoiler” tag in front of the thread title, so I thought an additional spoiler warning in the thread title itself would have been redundant. But yes, the assumption should be that everything discussed herein is based on the newest available information at any given point. Although even then I still like to use spoiler code when I know a piece of information to be very recent. That way people at least have the choice of not clicking it.

So with all that settled /s, can we move on to talk about the fact that we have "One Oh Five" incoming.
The way Noga immediately said "1.05" when asked, reminded me of when Anson and Rebecca, asked about season 2 replied "Episode 9".

I'm still all out for Tawny Newsome self-casting as Sisko's daughter in a holosimulation. And I still love the idea that was suggested that Ben did in fact return from the Wormhole after an eternity, but really yesterday, and live quietly and secluded on Bajor with Kass.

It would be:

  • Acceptable to the fandom
  • Address the absent black dad thing
  • Be something I reckon Avery would be happy with. We know he does allow some voice recording tmaterial of his to be used.
  • Allow SAM to "solve" the mystery, but she then decides not to share what actually happened, when she realises the implications to the Bajoran religion if that was known.
There is the wildcard of course that Avery Brooks does appear, and that the various reviewers with screeners who commented that he is not in the episode have been deliberately mis-directing. The above could all still be true if the aged Brooks was presented as an older SIsko with his older daughter - they don't have to have "just reconnected".

Anyway, I am hyped for this, I predict it will be a 9 or 10 whatever they do, as it has clearly been designed with a lot of love and Kerrice (Brooks!) is more than capable of carrying such a pivotal episode.

EDIT: what would blow it off the scale would be if Tawny acts in the episode, and someone comments: "She looks like Beckett Mariner", to be replied with "No I don't see it". I think that would kill me.

^ I’m guessing much of what you’re saying will turn out to be correct. However, I absolutely do not expect Avery Brooks to somehow show up with a guest performance. I really don’t think that’s in the cards.

They tend to lay it on pretty thick with the homages to previous Trek in this era of streaming Trek. So my (probably vain) hope is that they won’t go overboard and make sure it’s an interesting, well-written episode first before losing itself completely in the cameo moments. I’m the biggest Niner I know, but still I would actually be way more interested in a well crafted story about SAM that finally tells us more about what it means to be a “Series Acclimation Mil” who lives as a 17 year old teenager. They have basically spent zero seconds since the premiere giving us any hints.

I guess I will have to remain patient, but what I don’t understand is how they will manage to create any sort of connection between SAM and Sisko. I mean, what in the world does a Starfleet captain from 800 years ago, who went on to live with some aliens, have to do with a member of a species of photonics? And why would she want to solve that mystery? Is it just Academy homework? I don’t get it. My biggest fear is that we’re just supposed to accept that she’s interested in him as much as we are interested in him, much like the characters on Lower Decks were basically Trekkies living inside the universe of Star Trek. That I would find pretty lazy in this case.

I can’t remember right now, was it confirmed that Tawny would be playing a new character? Or could it still be that she appears as a holographic version of Mariner or whatever?
