Spartacus Gods of the Arena

Surprised to not see any thread here.

If you liked the first season, this prequel has been incredible! It's been my favorite show of 2011 so far.

I'm really looking forward to a rewatch in order, this seems like it leads perfectly into Blood and Sand.

I vaguely remember there being a thread on this show earlier.

Regardless, I am enjoying it, although it is hampered by being a prequel. The primary Batiatis character-arc is good, but weakened by what we know is coming for that character.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to Gannicus.

The arc that really surprised me is that of Solonius, it's interesting to see how is here after the first series. I actually started Gods on a whim, got so interested I went and watched Blood and Sand for the first time, so I have kind of a weird staggered view of the series. I was shocked when I saw Crixus in Blood and Sand after having started Gods.

Sure makes PG-13 shit like Clash of the Titans and The Scorpion King look even more feeble.

love the show looking forward to friday's season finale episode " the bitter end " .
hopefully it will be blooder and criptic as season one ender . Do you think starz will rerun season one after the prequeal end?
And is any one going to check out CAMELOT "sneak peak " after words.
It already looks better than merlin on sci-fi. and when do you think season
three will begin? (technically season 2)

I've been enjoying it, too. Like the first season, it's taking a little while for everything to kind of gel together. But, it's like a freight train - starts off slow but once it picks up speed it won't stop. The end of episode 5 was great.

I enjoyed Blood and Sand, and am saving Gods of the Arena to marathon once I have each episode DVRed.

Will there even be a third season? I heard Any Whitfield's Lymphoma returned and he felt unable to come back.

It's swords and sandals. Not technically Fantasy as there is no magic, and certainly not Science Fiction, but many would shoe horn it in there anyway. Where did discussions of 300 go?

The "fantasy" is that all men look like Gannicus & Crixus, and that all women look like Lucretia & Gaia.

Speaking of Lucy (Lucretia) , loved the interview where someone asked her if she let her kids watch it. IIRC her answer was "Good god no! You should put the kids to bed before settling down with your (partner) to watch."

Best line?

Titus: "Tell me you aren't the serpent I took you for."

Lucretia: (Smiling sweetly) "I'm not. I'm MUCH worse."

300 had fantastical beasts and 12-foot-tall soldiers.

it's historical fiction based on roman society of the period .
watch rome form hbo ran two season same people who do spartacus.

300 , spartacus , clash of the titans the odyess the illiad are considered historical fiction. even though spartacus was a real person . and troy was a real place , and the battle of thermopily actualy happened .

Though Blood and Sand came pretty close to having a mythical giant. I think the presentation of this show puts it pretty close to the fantasy side of things, it straddles the line close enough that it doesn't feel completely out of place. The first episode of Blood and Sand had barbarians that looked like they stepped out of the pits of Mordor. :)

I gotta admit that line was awesomely delivered by Lawless!

I'm glad I saw Blood and Sand before that though, I think B&S would've played differently had I seen this scene first.

Lymphoma almost sounds like it could be one of Lucretia's handmaidens. It would be really weird to watch without Andy though their hand was pretty much forced. Hope he recovers OK.

Rome was excellent. I think I might like Spartacus even better.

The two things that made me think "Fantasy" was the 300 effects and Lucy Lawless. That and this is the only part of the forum I regularly read.

IF YOU LIKE FANTASY COMING APIRL ON HBO IS GAMES OF THRONE AND ON STARZ
CAMELOT AND THEN ON SCY FY MERLIN.
