Space Cruiser Aurora

The CG version looks more like the warp drive equivalent of a VW mini-bus. Which, when you think about it, is actually a bit appropriate for a collection of teenaged social dropouts.

Technically, both versions of the Aurora are canon. Though newer continuity overwrites previous continuity.

Irrespective of the actual physical appearance, it makes sense that the Aurora was a small commercial spacecraft. Probably mass-produced or at least easily obtainable by wealthy citizens.

The shape reputedly is the exact same in "Mudd's Women", "Operation: Annihilate!" and "Way to Eden", but only this latter episode features the full level of detailing, including the scale-establishing portholes.

One of TOS-R's biggest hits IMHO. Although I'm also in love with the Ion Pod.

There's a cool old set of fan blueprints depicting this as a 20 m long private/commercial space yacht, with one of the three hull sections being a two-deck habitation area and the other two being for engines and stuff. Sort of Vulcanesque... That is, if one wants to think of the TMP shuttle as a Vulcan design.

I'm immensely partial to the TOS-R remake, though.

Not me. The remastered Aurora looks like some piece of bad cover art from 1950s science fiction novels.
I remember hearing a guy watching it say 'Why would they even want it back?"

The fascination for looking at the remastered spacecraft is there for all of us, but I think once you turn away we still prefer the original versions! Well I do anyway! But thanks for the look, Sir Rhosis! :techman:

the remastered looks less like a VW van, and more like a Oscar Mayer weiner mobile, with sewer pipes attached.

but that's just me.

the orginal is (imho) much better. looks like a expensive rich boy's crusier. belongs to someone who has their federation representative on both speed dial, and on a short leach.
