South Park Pandemic Special

We need South Park's take on the pandemic more than anyone else's.

If they follow pattern they'll call the people denying it dumb but call the most aggressively judgmental about it jerks, then come away with some speech about how to balance being sane about the virus and living your life.

I like how they kept saying "This isn't a time for your stupid special!"

I'd argue though it's the time it's most needed.

I thought it was good overall, in capturing different people's responses to COVID. The whole police violence thing felt a little hamfisted and the part with Randy missed the mark a bit, but in terms of cultural commentary it was spot on.

I liked the part where Garrison comes, destroys the hope for the vaccine, then says "Remember to vote everyone!" This is the first time I've seen South Park unequivocally against the republican. They clearly were 50/50 on Bush, McCain and Romney.

I am also now henceforth referring to masks worn below the nose as 'Chin diapers'.

This was hilarious. Especially the ”teachers”.
“Got ‘em!” :)
I imagine Cartman’s response to the pandemic was most kids during that time.

I liked the way at the end, even Cartman decided the situation was bad enough to act unselfishly and let the cure be found. And it was only the Trump stand-in who was still being completely selfish.

The best part of this show is Randy.

They'll have a field day with the next episode.

A lot of ways they could go with that. Obviously they're going to talk about anti-vaxxers, and they already did an anti-vax episode that sympathized with the people afraid of vaccines and was against making them mandatory. I'm not sure if they'll go in the direction of the vaccine actually being part of a crazy Bill Gates conspiracy or just focus on the frustration with the people fighting against vaccines.

Maybe the conspiracy will turn out that the vaccine was made from Randy's you know what, and they end up covering it up to get the pandemic over with.

New (very short) promo that actually has some footage:

I thought the Pandemic special was hilarious and can't wait to see the vaccination special. I'm wondering if it will be available on HBO Max the same day or maybe the next? It didn't mention.

Another show I can't wait to see address the pandemic: Curb Your Enthusiasm

What’s you think? I thought it was stronger than the pandemic special. It focused on real cultural touchstones and not just some dumb joke about bat ****ing.

Then the meta way it ended with Garrison making a deal with the cartoonists who are part of the QAnon conspiracy to hit the reset button on his character.

The way they showed it wasn’t 100% explicit, but no, it was Trey Parker and Matt Stone he made the deal with to cover up their participation in the child killing cabal.

The bouncer outside the Walgreen's had me cracking up, as did the old people flipping everybody off in line and doing donuts outside the school on a motorcycle

It also pays off with them being sent back to a nursing home at the end. Off you go. Cool places belong to the young people again or some line like that. Jason

I think I enjoyed the latest episode much more than the first one.

It may have been because Mr. Garrison was finally back in South Park, or it may have been the lack of Tegridy Farms, which has been done to death now.

The old people out and about being dicks because they'd been vaccinated was hilarious. I also loved the boys' more and more confusing diagrams of who was looking after Kenny. :D

The topic does not mention spoilers. So all the spoilers in this thread need to either be deleted or put in a spoiler tag.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker just signed a 900 MILLION dollar deal to produce six more seasons of South Park and 14 made for streaming movies.

It’s a good counter argument for the idea of cancel culture being a Pavlovian concept. You can offend everyone and still make a billion ducking dollars off it as long as you’re intelligent and thoughtful about it.
