Soundwave

I dunno, I thought it would be cool having Soundwave become a FBI Surveillance Van/Radar Plane or something like that.

Eh Ford/GM, point is some company paid the producers to make them that way and ignore what their appearance was in the series.

Same way I think Soundwave will wind up an I-pod if Apple pays enough or a Sony style MP3 if Sony ponies up.

That's not entirely true. Bay wanted Bubblebee to stay a VW bug, but VW said no, saying they didn't want their name associated with any kind of violence and such.

No, Bay wanted something different, and VW refuses to license the image of the Beetle for anything. VW of America is hated by we classic VW owners because they are a bunch of pricks who only trot out their heritage when they need to unload their current batch of turds on the market. Beleive me, VW would love to take Max to the crusher and wouldn't shed a tear doing so.

Bay never wanted Bumblebee to be a bug citing a similarity to Herbie.

Porsche also refused to allow their cars to be licensed for the Alternators line for the same reason as VW - 'War toys'...

But yet in Generation 1, Jazz was a Porsche 935 Turbo racing car.

And that's the issue.

I don't think that Bay will keep Soundwave music oriented in a way. Vehicle mode might have like huge speaks in the trunk or something like that but Soundwave along with Megatron both mass shift a lot and I don't think Bay wants to even begin explaining that.

Agreed. I don't think that's a bad thing though. Mass-Shifting is fine in comics and animation, but it would be hard to make believable in live-action, and I think it would be best avoided. Although avoiding it does lead to things like Starscream's rather odd looking super-wide robot mode, in order to stop him towering above even Optimus.

Laserbeak as a Flash Card? Wouldn't he be paper thin and easy to break?

That passcode did not work for me.

Why can't he be a computer that is constantly downloading music off the internet through less legit means. :)

A lot can change in 25 years. It's funny to see people blasting a company for being discretionary in advertising.

Personally, I don't understand the argument that Soundwave couldn't be an "antiquated" tape player. Is it an old form of technology? Yes. But we sell electronics in my store, and people buy stuff with tape players attached. Other people buy old LPs from the '60s and '70s. I'm pretty open-minded when it comes to new forms for a character, but this argument is like claiming a Transformer can't turn into a classic car or a WWII aircraft. It's not like those characters with Earth-based modes necessarily act like Earth vehicles. :p
