For those that do audio drama's or video productions, where do you get your sounds? I haven't had much luck finding any, and would like to try my hand at making an intro. I think I've got some good models, and want to put some sound to it, so any help would be appreciated.

A lot of sounds can be found on Trekcore.com also googling star trek sound fx helps. CD's are available of the original series fx. The generations CD has some good FX too.

What about other scifi's? Babylon 5, Battlestar, Stargate, etc? I'd like to have a large pool to pull from and try to make something that at least sounds a little unique.

Ideally I'd try to make my own sounds and music, but every time I've tried it's become clear that I simply don't have that skill.

Just google them. try www.sounddogs.com there's hundreds of sound fx sites around, you juts have to search. search for soundboards too and record the sound

We've found if you type in turbolift sound, there's dozens of sites with them. Ditto other sound effects.

The Star Trek sound effects and soundtracks for various episodes have been out on CD for several years, as have the old Doctor Who sound effects and music. Lucasfilm goes the extra parsec and provides music and sound effects for fan productions through their website. For the rest, you're best bet is scrounging through the net.

Well, I was hoping there was a free database like there are for some 3D models out there. This may sound cheap, but I didn't want to have to pay for this first test run. If I thought it worked out well, I was gonna see about setting money aside for some better quality ones.

You may have to consider something like an mp3 recorder that works through your sound card. The quality is nowhere near as good as the original file, but it might be good enough for a rough cut. I have used MP3myMP3 for a while. It's okay.
