Sophia Myles returning to DW?

I liked the title sequence of Thunderbirds and I'll give Frakes this, he directed a romp of a film. It wasn't great, and it sure as hell wasn't Thunderbirds but it didn't bore me, and Sophia Myles was very good as Lady Penelope.

I saw Tristran and Isolde as well...at the cinema no less!

I'd forgotten about Spooks. it's not a very well known show in North America, but I'll grant that one. Moonlight has a very intense, I'd compare it to Firefly, fanbase over here, so North American viewers would likely identify her from that. I could also have included Art School Confidential which is something of a cult film now. I cited Underworld because in terms of theatrical releases that was probably the most successful film she was involved in.

I hope she does come back to DW in some capacity. She actually had quite a bit of behind the scenes involvement back when she was dating David Tennant. I recall she did some videocamera work for some of his video diaries (or was it Confidential) and I remember reading that she actually read Catherine Tate's lines for I think Runaway Bride when Tate wasn't available for the readthrough.

If she is involved in an upcoming Doctor Who episode, at least we now know she won't be the new companion.

It would really be terrible if they did that. Pompadour was 10's and 10's alone. Eleven does not have the passion required for a story with her.

You know, the classic series often used several recurring actors who played a variety of roles, not just the first one they played. So if this is the case and the Doctor gets a second companion, then Myles could work out as long as she does not play Reinette again. I agree that Reinette was 10's and 10's alone. Smith will have enough happening with Coleman's fast-talking companion that there just won't be any time leftover for a love story.

Yeah, but I was responding to those who thought that she was going to be Reinette.

the new series has reused actors, several times. Freema, Karen and Eve Myles.

Which is true, but none of them played major roles, borderline iconic. Sophia played "The Girl in the Fireplace" in an episode that at the time (and even today) was hailed as one of the best DW episodes ever. Freema, Karen and Eve played relatively minor roles.

It's sort of like them deciding to introduce a new male companion and have him played by John Simm. Nothing stopping them from doing it, and he'd be welcomed, but it would be a hard sell convincing anyone he isn't the Master. And the physical similarity would have to be addressed, just as the writers had to explain why Romana suddenly started looking like Princess Astra.

In terms of screen time and relevance to the plot I'm not sure Reinette was that much more important than Gwyneth in the Unquiet Dead?

Simm is a different kettle of fish entirely given he's in 5 episodes of the show playing an iconic character.

Given that we've also had Billie Piper and Georgina Moffett , I actually think a lot of casual viewers wouldn't necessarily register that Sophia Myles had been in DW before. They might just think 'Oh another pretty blonde girl.'

On a scale of 1 to 10 on the chances of her coming back, with 1 being Christopher Eccleston and 10 being David Tenant, It'd rate the chance as a 7 :)

Granted this was during the classic series in a different era of media (dawn of the internet, social media, etc.), but Lalla Ward and Colin Baker both played major characters in serials prior to taking on the bigger roles (although in Lalla's case, it was directly tied in).
