Sophia Myles returning to DW?

Granted this was during the classic series in a different era of media (dawn of the internet, social media, etc.), but Lalla Ward and Colin Baker both played major characters in serials prior to taking on the bigger roles (although in Lalla's case, it was directly tied in).
And let's not forget Companion Barbara who pretended to be a Priestess in one of her first stories, came back in the Tom Baker years to play a Priestess Character

Plenty of people have had multiple roles in Doctor Who, going all the way back to the First Doctor's era with Peter Purves, who appeared as "Morton" for a single episode, then joined the crew in the next adventure as Steven Taylor, and Nick Courtney who played Bret Vyon before returning as the Brig.

One could count John Leeson in there, who was the voice of K9 and then played other on-screen characters.

Already mentioned were Lala Ward, who played the princess and then the lesser Romana, and Colin Baker who was Maxil before he was The Doctor.

Which brings up another one ... We all know about Freema playing Martha's identical twin cousin, but before her we had David Tennant playing various characters in Big Finish audios (including at least one with Nick Courtney!).

Besides those who have already been mentioned, of course.

I find her character she played previously to be a memorable character in a memorable episode so what would excite me is seeing her return as that character.

I'm a bit sad to see that Sophia Myles won't be playing the new companion. But I still hope she's coming back to Doctor Who in some manner!

Hence the problem. She can't because the character (who remember is a real-life historical character, not someone Moffat made up) experienced her entire character arc, culminating in her death, in the space of that one hour. They can't bring her back because to do so will lessen the impact (scratch that - destroy the impact) of the original episode because to say she actually went off and had all those adventures with a Doctor wasn't her "Fireplace Man" - it just wouldn't work.

But because she made such an impact as Reinette that's pretty much the only character she could play. And the "descendant of Reinette" gambit is impossible because Madame De Pompadour had two children but one died in infancy and the other at the age of 10. If I had to guess what Sophia might do in a return visit, I'd say a voice, a character under heavy make-up, or a flashback to Reinette which is possible but unlikely.

So am I. I'm absolutely mortified.

I still haven't recovered from the fact that she didn't return for Spooks series 10 either. :(

On a positive note the character was spared a future agonizing death

We all know Dmitri, Erin and Calum are as good as dead :(

It was just a matter of when in the show's hypothetical future
