Songs that impacted your life.... and why...

Its late and I'm finding myself not able to go to sleep, so I've been watching music videos and listening to some of my favorite songs from years past.....
Anyway, I came across one of my favorite songs from my Childhood, a song that over the years has had a very large impact on my life....

Doug Supernaw's "I Don't Call Him Daddy"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ta0DTKZWVJc

This song came out 2 years after my parents divorced and 6 months after my mother married her current husband. My Dad would drive for literally hours on end to get me for a weekend. Like the kid in the video, so many of my childhood memories are of riding in a pickup with my Father.
Me and him were actually just talking about that the other day, while I was riding with him after dropping off a vehicle.... The more things change...... Right?

Anyone else care to share?

Tears for Fears' "Shout" kick-started my love for 80s music, which continues to this day.

And, cliched as the sentiment is, Five for Fighting's beautiful yet somewhat sinister "Love Song" helped me get over the blahs of being dumped by my first girlfriend.

My boyfriend and I split up over a year ago, got back together, broke up again, drifted back together, then we had a falling out over New Years and he decided to pretend I don't exist until a couple of weeks ago. It took me a long time to work through what he did, because I'm very close to his family and we shared friends. I've now moved on, (oddly enough just as he's started to speak to me again), but at any rate, this song in this particular mix

Lunar Rings

is a song I heard recently, and its lyrics completely describe what I went through for so long. Pay attention to the lyrics. Joe was the lover who was both forbidden and estranged, and for months I took refuge in a vision of Calypso myself as I held onto him. Usually, when I find songs that i relate to like that, it's because I've come to see where my actions and attitudes have led and I am ready to change.

The song with more complete lyrics can be found here. It really is a sad song about a woman who has lost her lover and has held onto him in her heart, who wants to move on, but she can't do it yet. It's almost like a call for help. That was me up until very recently.

Same here. Haven't listened to it for a while, so I gotta dust off the old cassette tape in a bit. :D

Other songs that had a big impact on me:

"Ebony & Ivory" by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder. It was just a song that I loved immensely as a kid, and it made the theme song for the summer of '82 for me--G.I. Joe toys, Tron, Star Trek II. Good times...

"For Your Eyes Only" by Sheena Easton. It actually introduced me into the world of James Bond, but more than anything it was just an awesome song (soundtrack of my life stuff here).

"In a Big Country" by Big Country. My first rock anthem song (first time I ever really noticed guitars in a song).

"It's Over" by Level 42. Awesome ballad & breakup song, but it also introduced me to my favorite band and eventually inspired me to take up the bass guitar.

Raspberry Beret - Prince. Because for some reason it's the song that is playing in my head when I wake up 4 mornings out of 5 for as long as I can remember.

I fear for my sanity.

Daniel Ingram's "Smile Smile Smile" helps pull me up from the much when I'm so deep that groundhogs are delivering my mail.

Any time I listen to it, I can't help but feel my spirits lift.

Made me want to drill my own ears out with a power drill.

Song: "Shiny, Happy, People" - R.E.M.

Impact: Caused me to give up on popular music and switch to country.

Why: The song was utterly stupid.
