Spoilers (Somewhat minor spoilers) Guys, Lower Decks has NOT decanonized Discovery. Or SNW.

I'm not sure why there is a distinction between Live action and animated. Continuity isn't based on that. All the TV shows and movies are looked upon equally. (Depending on the current IP holder/franchise runner)

I think the issue with that started with the whole TAS debacle (Is it canon? Is it not canon? Are only parts of it canon, or is it all canon? Etc etc.) Not to mention that TAS was always looked upon, even by its creator, as a cartoon for kids. So for the longest time the idea of animated Trek being taken seriously was up in the air.

Then the first Trek animated series in 47 years comes along, and it’s a comedy that rarely takes itself seriously. Then a second animated series that was ostensibly made for kids, turns out to have been too cerebral for them, and was not taken seriously as a kid’s show (despite it turning out to be the best Trek show CBS produced, IMHO.) And then to add insult to injury, CBS’s ‘tribute’ to TAS was some of the most horrid Trek on TV.

So no, I wouldn’t say that animated Trek has ever been looked upon as equal to live-action.

The people who would claim that Lower Decks has "decanonized" Disco should now be faced with the notion that to hold to that thought* that this means EVERYTHING in LOWER DECKS is absolutely canon! I mean, if it's enough to move one and possibly two entire series to an alternate universe then I would think every little note of LDS at this point must be binding.

* which isn't even true to begin with unless the Sovereign class is also from an alternate universe.

Of course when Boims and Mariner went to SNW they were all amazed at how they were getting to play with all the cool toys they had seen in the histories and nobody once said "Hey, this must be an alternate timeline!"

What's hilarious to me is that when Lower Decks came out it was not regarded well, and not binding on anything. Fans were struggling with the poot behavior of Mariner and company, saying she should never be in Starfleet, etc.

Amusingly, in a twist even Shamalan couldn't predict, Lower Decks is suddenly a fandom's latest hope to bind the evil of the Discovery Klingons. :wtf:

"Lower Decks turns out to be good and well liked" was a twist, but it happened four and half seasons ago.

It has nothing to do with being "well liked."

Going from "not canon because it's animated/wrong/fill in the blank" to "Help us, Lower Decks. You're our only canonical hope" is a crazy turn.

I'm just saying, it's not a turn that happened overnight. At least not over this night. Lower Decks has been earning respect for years, due to the respect and love it has shown to the Treks that came before it. Including Disco and SNW.

Overnight or not it's too dramatic to be believable. This is "Enterprise deserves respect" levels of turn.

Decanonized or not, DSC is really the least rewatchable Trek, even if we compare to other NuTreks.
It's boring to discuss old Trek over and over but unfortunately NuTrek really doesn't leave much to be discussed.
SNW is somewhat on the correct path but even that 50% of the episodes aren't rewatchable.

I rewatch SNW all of the time. Sometimes entire seasons. Sometime specific episodes. "Those Old Scientists" is a go to for when I'm feeling down.
I rewatch Discovery a lot and SNW. Same with Kelvin Trek. I think it's all worthwhile and discussable.

SNW and PRO get the most rewatches out of me of all the current or recent streaming shows.

Thing is, the TV world is so different to in the 90's. Back then, there was TNG and X-Files and not a lot else. But today we're in the age of content spam, rewatching the same show over and over isn't the same as it used it be because there's so much stuff out there. At least for me.
