Something I only found out recently ...

Cygnus

Ensign
Newbie
Apparently Edward James Olmos was approached first for the role of Picard. After he turned it down it was offered to Patrick Stewart. I would never have guessed ...

No point speculating how things would have turned out with Olmos as Picard. For me Picard is definitely the best Captain in all of Star Trek and that is no small part down to Patrick Stewart.

That being said I think Olmos did a fantastic job as Adama. The two characters are quite different despite sharing many similarities ... but I still can't quite picture it.

Hmmm, I wonder if he would have kept his moustache a-la Miami-Vice and Blade Runner?

For me, Eddie Olmos as Lt. Martin Castillo in MIAMI VICE will always represent Olmos' best work. I love what Olmos did with that role. I still see echoes of it in "Husker" Adama.

I cannot imagine Olmos in the role of Picard. That one throws me for a loop!

Where is it documented that Olmos was considered for the TNG captain role? Just wondering.

Not really familiar with this Olmos chap, although people seem to like him, but at this point it's hard to imagine anyone else as Jean-Luc Picard.

I'm still wondering what would've happened in Jeffrey Combs got the Riker part when he auditioned. Would that mean Frakes would've played Weyoun and Brunt?

And Combs would have played Shran and Riker in TATV...

As for Olmos. I, too, think Stewart was perfect.
But Olmos as Archer...might have been awesome.

I dunno, I think Bakula would have worked out if he had better writing and direction.

Then again, ENT needed more time in the "thinking it all out" stage, new writers, etc. Whole thing was rushed.

I can't imagine anyone but Patrick Stewart playing Picard. Olmos is great in nuBSG, I'm sure he would have made an interesting and very different Picard.

I recently got around to watching the extra bits on the Voyager DVDs and there's a bunch of Genevieve Bujold scenes on it, it was kind of odd seeing what could have been in that case (and thankfully wasn't).

I remember about a year ago learning something new; reading an comment from Stewart that they tested/screen tested him with a wig because he was bald. It didn't work out.

I would still like to see Edward James Olmos in Trek. Although I would just want to take Admiral Adama and put him as an Admiral in ST.

Eh, he wouldn't work out if there were other Admirals around. Adama and most of the Galactica crew worked because they were all there was, the rejects. In a normal military they'd just be second stringers.

If Olmos were Picard, the show would have never lasted beyond the first episode, because Olmos's Picard would have shot Q an icy stare, killing him on the spot, right there, on the floor of the Bridge. :)

I have, however, always wanted to see Patrick Stewart play a Colonial Admiral on nuBSG, in a flashback or something. He totally would have pulled it off something awesome.
