Something at Comic-Con - This rocks

Re: Nothing at Comic-Con - This sucks

Maybe they don't want six months of people complaining that the uniforms are too similar to TOS. Or the bridge is too retro. Would you trust the fans?

Re: Nothing at Comic-Con - This sucks

I just want to see a pic of the Enterprise!

Yeah, me too.

That would do me. All the other stuff can wait.

Think though, when ever this stuff does get out - they are rolling a massive hard six. Timing is everything.

Re: Nothing at Comic-Con - This sucks

No longer than the lead time for "Iron Man."

I imagine this translates into "we don't have anything to show that we think would produce a real positive buzz."
Of course, Iron Man was also a comics property. Star Trek isn't. So, it made sense to promote Iron Man at SDCC. :)

And yes, I realize that SDCC is outgrowing the CC part of its name. Which may be good for the convention as a whole, but bad for the comics fandom.

While SDCC has always been the place to be for the comics industry, it has also had strong ties to science-fiction/fantasy media from books to television. Star Wars was previewed at con. The various Trek stars have gone to con from Walter Konieg to William Shatner. Robotech had a big showing at con before it hit the airwaves. Stargate had always had a strong presence at con. JMS showed some of the first footage of Babylon 5 at con because he knew of its power to create grass-roots buzz (also because he went to high school and college in San Diego).

Forrest J. Ackerman has been a frequent guest. Various SF/Fantasy authors also put in an appearance at con, including Larry Niven and Ray Bradbury.

In recent years, Hollywood has become more and more integrated with con that's beyond the comic book/science-fiction realm. Nevertheless, SDCC has always been the place for comics, SF, fantasy and anime and has always had one of the largest gatherings of cross-genre fandom.

That's if you can get inside the building nowadays. SDCC has grown so large (125,000 in attendance last year) they no longer sell tickets at the door. You have to buy in advance online. Anyone who makes the trip to San Diego next month without a pre-purchased pass will be turned away. Hotel space sold out last February as well for the run of the con.

Re: Nothing at Comic-Con - This sucks

Damn peculiar. If only we had the Paramount prefix-codes....

Re: Nothing at Comic-Con - This sucks

Paramount will show up. This fabricated news of Paramount not wanting to show was just a way of testing the waters. Once they saw the uproar online they will justify in changing their minds.

Re: Nothing at Comic-Con - This sucks

I'm not brave enough to go to one of these things. But if they have something cool Trek-related there it is the patriotic duty of any self-respecting nerd to TAKE SOME PICTURES!

I'm going to the Star Trek specific convention in Vegas again this year, but this nerd isn't going to take any damn pictures of anything related to Abrams piece of garbage, if there is anything related to it that is.

No, but I might tell that Zachary Pinto poser to go fuck himself if he approached me at the Hilton.

I just spent this past weekend in San Diego and Comic-Con banners are already up all over the downtown area, scores of them. What's striking is there's a Star Trek/Paramount banner alongside each and every one. I kid you not, no BS.

That's bullshit!! I think they are lying, Abrahm's may be fooling us, so he can surprise us, if not then Paramount is plain stupid, I call bullshit
