Something About The TOS-R Title Sequence

Just a few weeks ago I finally gave in and got myself a blu-ray player with the first two seasons of Star Trek. And while I love the updated clarity of the picture and most of the recreated effects (almost all the new matte shots are amazing!), there's something about the new title sequence that's been bugging me.

At first I couldn't put my finger on it, but then I suddenly saw what it was: Beginning approximately at the :16 minute mark, there are three concecutive cuts where the starfield in the background is only slightly moving. It's hard to put in words, but it looks like they used the exact same starfield graphic for all three shots with only very little alteration at all. It's best you take a look at it yourself. Once seen, it's really distracting (at least to me, that is).

Has this been discussed before? Does anyone know why the did it? Am I seeing things?

Not as far as I'm aware.

Does anyone know why they did it?

CBS-D operating under the gun and/or on a tight budget, I'd imagine. It's hardly the only really obvious blunder they've made. For example, there's repeating photoshop clone stamp artifacts in a matte paining in the "Inner Light" Blu-Ray. (Look at the ground on the bottom right corner.)

Nope. I see it too. You're right. It's pretty distracting.

Looks like someone forgot to change the background layer in the compositing. It would have taken no time to fix had someone spotted it before they rendered it out. Even if they didn't have a different starfield handy, hey could have rotated the one 180 degrees in the second shot and that would have fixed it.
