Someone's going to... <<SPOILERS>>

Just making a thread for this topic, outside of the usual spoiler section since I don't want to hijack that thread with a long discussion.

So sort of Spoilers ahead... You have been warned...
















So they have just leaked that a major character is going to be killed off by the end of the season in "truly dead" way like Boone or Shannon.

Here are the hints as to who...

• A current series regular is getting killed before the end of season five.
• The character who will die is someone who is much-loved by many of you fans.
• This is a real leaving-the-show death, à la Shannon or Charlie, not a quick-fix time-travel death like Jeremy Bentham/John Locke.
• The character getting killed off is not, I repeat, not Evie's character Kate Austen.

So who do you think it will be?

Well I don't think it is any of the original cast since it is a "current regular" which I take to mean a more recent character, although I guess all the original cast are still considered current regulars.

But if it is only a newer cast member that means it could be:

Ben
Juliette
Miles
Daniel
Frank
Richard
Desmond
Penny
(am I missing anyone else that is a regular, but not there from the beginning?)

And since the character is "much loved" is guess that rules out Miles and possibly Frank (although I really like Frank I don't know if he is "loved").

So who do you think it will be?

My guess is Juliette. her death will bum out Sawyer (and Jack) but also clear the way for all the Swayer & Kate fans.

Also there is some behind the scenes controversy over the handling of the death since it got leaked out in outline/treatments to the crew before the person or the rest of the cast was even told.

My guess is Juliette as well, sadly, she'll never get her chance to go back to the mainland

I'd also bet the person's death will help/lead/get the rest of the cast out of the 70's and back to the present time in which case it might be Ben. I mean if he dies then then defending the island from Widmore would fall upon the Locke and Jack which is more dramatic then having them fallow Ben's orders.

I disagree that it can't be an original. In fact, I think killing off another original character is going to be exactly what the show needs to move into the territory they need to in the final chapter. My bet is that by May 2010, at the very least, several of the characters we've grown to love over the past five years will be dead. In order to do that, the ante needs to be upped considerably. This needs to happen THIS season, not next. Therefore, my bet is the character who will die at the end of this season will actually be Sawyer. The season's been focusing pretty heavily on him and he's the character that's changed the most over the past five years. He's changed so much that he'll actually sacrifice himself to get the rest back to present day. It will affect everyone greatly and thrust both the characters and the audience into the final chapter by saying no one is safe.

If they really want to shock the hell out of us (and on this show, they could) - Hurley.

I have a feeling it will be Sayid, which will SEVERELY piss me off, as I just love that character.

They would never kill off Hurley; people like him too much.

Over at DarkUFO they've narrowed down the death candidates to five characters. And I know this is already a spoiler thread, but just so I don't ruin anyone's fun in speculating a wider range of people...

Spoiler: Who dies?

Ben, Sawyer, Daniel, Jin, Miles. My money is on Daniel, as he's the only loved character on there who I can see them offing before the end of the show.

But he's not a "much loved" character. In fact I don't think most fans don't really even like him, let alone love him.

I've said it before, and saying it again. There's only one character they could kill off that would make me stop watching the show, and she's very much a "much loved" character - Rose. As long as she survives, I'll keep watching.

I liked Miles at first when he actually got lines and the actor is really good but they've done NOTHING with him in a season and a half...and they did nothing with Charlotte either and look what happened to her (something about choclate.)

At this point in the game, do ratings really matter? The chances of Lost not finishing its final season are slim to none. What's more important? Keeping the advertisers and one small section of the audience happy or telling a good story? Hurley would be another shocker, but my money's still on Sawyer. Sayid? Meh. That rumor's been going since season 2.

Ben and Sawyer are untouchable I think, from a story standpoint. They're just too intricately woven into what's happening. The rest of them listed over at DarkUFO are fair game, but I'd be sad to see any of them go.

And for the record, Frank, Richard and Penny aren't regulars, but I don't see them lasting too much longer. Although I hope Frank does, at the very least. He's my favorite next to Rose and Bernard (and we better find out where they are soon!).

I just have this bad feeling it will be Sayid. From the promo pics, it looks like he gets a flashback sequence, and that usually doesn't bode well for the doomed characters.

And where the hell are Rose and Bernard. I really like them---so it better not be one them that buys the farm.

There are actually two deaths coming up. The major one we've been talking about so far, and another one. This other one is described as being a majorish character, as opposed to a major character.

This means we may have to break our lists up into two categories. Major and Majorish.

Major = Ben, Sawyer, Jin, Sayid, Desmond
Majorish = Miles, Daniel, Penny, Rose, Bernard, Richard and more

Major: it better not be Ben. He's the most interesting character on the show. I firmly believe that by the end of the series we'll learn he's the one who's been doing everything to save the island, the big hero.

As for majorish: Penny may already be dead.
