Someone needs geography lessons

I did a Quiz of the states of the USA here and got 92 out of 150.

Pfft, I got all the Australian ones right. Of course, it helps to have only 7 with three of them having North, West, and South in their names :p

There are only six states - Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia. There are two territories - The Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory. It is very likely that the Northern Territory will become Australia's 7th state one day.

Clearly Katter is right: Australia needs more states to make for more challenging geography quizzes.

Now do Russia. ;)

I did a Quiz of the states of the USA here and got 92 out of 150.

The states I got right first guess were

Alaska*
California*
Delaware
Florida*
Georgia
Hawaii*
Louisiana
Maine
Massuchuetts
Minnesota
Missouri
Montana*
New Jersey
New York
New Mexico
North Dakota*
Ohio
Oklahoma*
Oregon*
Rhode Island*
South Carolina
South Dakota*
Texas*
Washington*
Wyoming*

The ones marked with asterisks are the ones I definitely knew and didn't guess at all. I knew the location of North and South Dakota, Wyoming, Oklahoma and Montana because of my interest in the history of the Cheyennes.

On a second guess I got

Michigan
Arkansas
North Carolina
Wisconsin
Arizona
Nevada
Mississippi
Alabama
New Hampshire
Connecticut

I got Utah on a third guess. All the other states I got completely wrong (but I think in most cases I was in the basic area.

I had a go at that too. I scored 145 out of 150.

Got three of them on second guesses, and one on the third guess. I made correct guesses first time for 14 of the states, and knew all the rest.

I wonder if there's a similar quiz for the counties and administrative regions of the United Kingdom?

You don't know Virginia? :( Is this like where they are?

I get most the southern states confused with each other. I know which region they are in but am uncertain of exactly which one is which on an unmarked map.

One day I reckon will see North Queensland as another state. Also with Northern Territory proposed to become a state, support is being mustered at the moment.

NT declined to become a state a few years back ... pfft, just because we weren't going to give them any senators or something.

No love for Illinois, either. Where do you think Chicago comes from?!

Upon further investigation, you have no love for the entire Midwest. :(

For Illinois I clicked on three states that bordered the Great Lakes. I believe the first one I clicked on was Ohio and that explains why I got Ohio right when it came up soon after. Similar to the southern states, I roughly know which states are in the Midwest but not exactly sure of their location on an unmarked map. I did manage to get 5 out of the 12 Midwest states right on the first guest and another right on the second guest.

wait? New Mexico has a magazine?

Yes.. It's called New Mexico Magazine... Much like Albuquerque the Magazine, it's designed with tourists in mind, with trendy adds and such.. But it has a lot of great articles about unique NM stuff, book reviews and great recipies..

Linky...

How you doin' Seph? Haven't heard from you in a while... Still living here in the Duke City?

Heh... This is nothing...

In New Mexico, our state magazine has a monthly column in the back entitled One of our 50 is Missing. The column has two or three examples of people from around the world who either refuse (that's right, refuse) to recognize that New Mexico is a state or just plain don't know.

TV news programs citing stories from "Albuquerque, Arizona", placing an AZ or TX over New Mexico, etc... Conversations between residents and companies they are trying to do business with, who refuse to ship items "out of country"...

As New Mexicans, we have to endure questions like "Do you speak English there?" and "Do you use dollars or pesos?"... It's pretty comical just how clueless some people are.

Its funny, I've talked to people about New Mexico before and they say: "Mexico"? I say, no New Mexico, its a state. People don't seem to know the difference!! It just boggles my mind.

RAMA

As an American, I got 144 on that quiz. And I actually did swap Arizona and New Mexico, whoops.

I scored 135 after I got confused on some of the pesky ones in the middle. I got New Mexico and Arizona correct having travelled through them on Route 66.
