Someone is stealing our trash...

There's no way that this situation cannot be used for some fun. Just make sure no one gets hurt and keep us updated.

I'm beginning to suspect it may be a mentally ill homeless person. Makes no sense to surround yourself with old trash otherwise. The basement area even provides a little door, so insulation isn't a necessity, and certainly not with rubbish.

My dad owns a store with several pop machines out front and there's a lady who goes through the trash cans that are next to them, taking all the empty bottles of pop to get bottle deposit money. My dad doesn't care that she does this, she goes somewhere else to get the deposits and it means they don't have to change the trash bags as often. Win win I guess.

Put a big folded piece of paper into the trash and write this down.

"STOP STEALING MY TRASH YOU BASTARD! IF YOU DON'T STOP I WILL FIND YOU! I WILL KILL YOU!"

RESULT! We've caught the culprit red-handed!

We decided to keep the window wide open to see if we'd get lucky. And yep, eventually, a sports shirt wearing skin-head came buy and flung our trash down to the basement. We quickly gathered the other residents of the building and challenged him on the spot - we'd all been waiting for this opportunity.

The why: he's sick and tired of our trash, and our doorstep is the wrong place for it.
Erm, everyone on the street puts their rubbish on the doorstep, no one in the area has wheelie bins.

And how does flinging it to the floor of the basement help the sanitation of the area? He had no answer for that.
Guy's got too much time on his hands, or he's got a screw loose.

I do think he'll think twice next time though, he had four very irate, red in the face people to deal with today, one of which is an over six foot wardrobe of a man, who weighs at least 250 pounds. Trash stealing guy was very quick to hot-foot it out of there! I'd be very surprise if we ever saw him anywhere near our doorstep again.

Good thing you got the other neighbours with you on this. Hopefully this will be the end of the trash bag mystery :D

He doesn't live in the apartment building then? I'm wondering what his purpose for visiting the building was. Surely he must be a regular visitor or why else would the bags at the doorsteps bother him?

He doesn't live here. There are only four families living in the building, and we all know each other very well and are on pretty good terms. Our neighbours aren't the type of people to do this. It's their home, too! They're just as pissed as we are.

We have no idea why this guy would fixate himself with trash, orderly neat trash that gets left out for disposal, just like any other house on the street. Incidentally, the neighbours to our right have also since told us they've experienced the same problem. He's probably a nut-job. Maybe he has a particular dislike for the numbers on our door? Who knows.

It's clear he's a local, he passes by several times a day, once we sight which door he goes into, it's going to become a police matter - on health and safety grounds. In the meantime, neighbourhood watch is going to get involved, too. I also hope we put the fear of god into him today. I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of our downstairs neighbour if I were him, he looks like he could snap a man in two.
