Some random stuff, and what's this gender nonsense?

At the start of the series there was a small clip wasn't there of the Doctors giving the sisters the confession dial to pass onto Missy?

How was it that the same sisters are there when he emerges? Did they also live 4.5 billion years?

And I DO NOT understand all the fuss over this regeneration in "hell bent" meaning the Doctor could change genders... I just do not get it..

I don't understand this anger over a female Doctor.

You do realize though Timelords look humanoid that's only what we see. It may not even be their true form. In City Of Death an artist is doing a picture of Romana and instead of her face he sees a clock. So they must project something around them...

All over the internets I see angry fanboys and girls angry over such a silly thing.

Ohila herself has been around since the Eighth Doctor's days, that's her in Night of the Doctor. So by The Magician's Apprentice she's already been around for 1300 years that's between those two episodes.

I don't understand this anger over a female Doctor.

It's just a very vocal minority of piss-headed douchebags who think a female Doctor is going to he the greatest tragedy humanity has ever faced. Most enlightened people realize there's nothing to worry about.

I do worry that the casting of a female Doctor is going to generate more media attention and buzz than a new Doctor casting typically does, inflating the whole thing way out of proportion. But that's not a reason not to do it.

Yeah sorry to mention this again outside of the other thread, just the reaction I am seeing on other forums is just so out of proportion, it's kind of mind boggling...

Ohila did mention that one should expect the company of immortals at the end of the universe. Their special water is suppose to make the immortal if I recall.

The Sisterhood are supposed to have the secret of immortality through the Flame and Elixir of Life (as per the Fourth Doctor story The Brain of Morbius). So Ohila could just be that long-lived.

That said, it was implied in the authors' backstory for the Seventh Doctor story Silver Nemesis that Lady Peinforte had learnt some of her tricks from the Sisterhood, and they included time travel.

Yep - in the Virgin backplot, ancient Gallifrey was ruled by a succession of prophetic Queen-Goddesses called the Pythia, who were eventually overthrown by Rassilon and his cohorts. The die-hard followers of the last Pythia fled to Karn and became the Sisterhood.
There's a nod to this in President Rassilon's comment about the Sisterhood having 'no place in this council, or on this planet.' They're the old regime he booted out, all those millenia ago.

Rassilon was a bit of a dick.

Although The Visionary from The End of Time was thought to be a sister when the episode premiered.

Thought by fans, perhaps, but that was never RTD's intent, and indeed the novels have since established there is a Time Lord Visionary Order that the Visionary in TEOT represented.

Speaking as a man, I really like seeing women cosplay as the Doctor, because we tend to project our ideals onto our heroes, or rather that our heroes are a reflection of our personal values. Sure, Tennant and Smith were eye candy for many, but the character's appeal is at the core. It's grown to women cosplaying as other Doctors, as his traits transcend incarnations. The Doctor has always had female fans since the very beginning, but they're getting more and more vocal and visible. A female Doctor would be a great way to honor them. The resulting story changes would be interesting, for sure. And the show has a great tradition of reinventing itself. I'd tune in, for sure.

The Master regenerated as a woman, so why can't the Doctor?
I don't understand why people would get so hung up over this.

I don't think I've seen a single comment from anyone being "hung up over this". I think it's a myth that anyone is.

Oh yeah, Gallifrey Base has been in outrage over the gender swap issue since Missy was revealed to be the Master last year. The rest of the world doesn't care.

I follow a lot of scifi and genre pages on Facebook. Every so often, the topic of a female Doctor comes up and there are a lot of very negative responses. Could well be the same people commenting on each post, I suppose, but I do think it's fair to say that some people are hung up on it.

My only frame of reference is this board really. It's nice to know that most of us on here are more enlightened than that. I suppose it goes with the territory if you're a Star Trek fan. IDIC.

Um. There are a few on this very board who hate the idea of a female Doctor. This place might not be as crazed as others, but...

And some of the most rigidly thinking people I have met have been Star Trek fans, especially when it comes to gender and people of color.
