"...some of the worst cinematography ever"?

Schrembi in the Age pours criticism on most new movies. So I don't take his opinion of Trek that seriously. Everyone else seems to have given it positive reviews.

But I'm not seeing it until next Tuesday. Argggh! My mum, a big fan, insists on seeing it with me. I suppose I could sneak in early, and play dumb next Tuesday...

Seeing it on IMAX did make it tough to 'take in' a lot of the space sequences.

But that wasn't my problem. My problem was ALL THE FRAKKING LENS FLARE!

Go for it! And I'm not just a mother, I'm a grandmother. But make sure you don't let her find out or she may get pissy/hurt and refuse to go.

You really know how to make a n00b feel welcome - please keep in mind that your rank is imaginary.;)

I intend to love the movie - old fart and new ensign, that I am!

Welcome to the TrekBBS!

Thank you, kindly!

You know - it might be worth it to start a few thread like 'hated it' and 'what part did you dislike' as a preemptive gesture. Then they can go off and complain in their own little lifeboats.

I think this looks amazing - and I feel the same excitement I used to back in college waiting for a zine in the mail. Can't wait to see it! I may have to go on Friday alone - and I might just do it!~

I was merely using the "ensign" tag as a euphemism for "newly signed up poster". Fact that you referenced it indicates it means MORE to YOU and makes YOU feel inferior. Notice that YOU were the one to use the dismissive and derogatory "nOOb" apellation, not me. I was merely stating a fact I had noticed - there are lost of new posters here - which can be identified as "ensigns".

My "rank" is simply indicative of the amount of posts I have made here, which in itself is arbitrary and misleading because I was posting here since late 2000(not the 2003 date or whatever my current details indicate)under a name on a different computer that I lost the log in for. Were there a "rank" for it, I should be closer to "High Q Lord" or something now! ;)

Just chill out a bit, relax and enjoy the place and don't take it all so seriously and you'll be fine.

Glad we're all friends! There already was a "why did you hate it thread?" that was shut down preemptively. I think any thread like that would be a flame war waiting to happen.

Oh Tikkun - one other thing - watch out for Dennis. He's the curmudgeonly old fart that eats nOObs for second breakfast!

;) :p

Sorry - I was joking too - I really didn't take offense. :)

And I am loving it here!

Cool - and welcome.

Oh and another warning - Temis is the female Dennis. Even their names sound similar!

As a curmudgeonly old fart myself, I guarantee I am tough and stringy. He'll have to braise me in some fine saurian Brandy, and that would truly be a waste of good booze. I'll be happy to pour a few glasses though - I think it would be good for morale!

I believe I may join you at Bag End for some pipeweed, too. After all, the movie won't be here for another day - and LOTR is a masterpiece!

Dude... it's from the idiot who brought you Cloverfield... what else would you expect, but 2 hours of extreme shaking and panning? The only thing different here, is he added 2 hours of blinding and annoying lens flare to boot.

Oh, I did forget to mention the lens flares. There's some moments where the screen just goes white in the middle of an action scene, which makes it even more difficult to follow.

I like the film overall, but that was damned annoying.

It seems you does not understand the difference between the director, producer and cinematographer.

Cloverfield was filmed in that style on purpose, that was the point of the film, the hand held look.

Star Trek utilizes more traditional filming styles, however still uses the shaky cam style at moments of action, and its a completely viable filming style.

But of course that makes Abrams an idiot.

And hell your avatar and sig show BSG, a show that exclusively used shaky cam. But of course Ron Moore isn't an idiot.
