Some new release dates

Browsed through S&S earlier today, and it seems as if they have set the release dates for some novels:

David R. George III's second novel will be released on June 26th 2012, so it counts as the July book. They have it listed as TNG: The Founder's Tear, but I guess like with the first book that's just an old placeholder title for Raise the Dawn.

Titan: Fallen Gods by Michael A. Martin is set to be released on July 31st.

And Voyager: The Eternal Tide by Kirsten Beyer is listed for August 28th, although I think Kirsten had already said it would be the September book.

And that makes Mack's trilogy the October, November, December books, and we've got the whole schedule. Cool. I'm pretty excited; that's a lot of 24th century in a row, which will be awesome after basically a year without any.

Are we sure all three novels in the trilogy are supposed to come out in 2012? I could have missed it or have forgotten it, but other than speculation here I don't think I have read anywhere that that's the case.

I feel like we knew that right when the books were initially announced, but I don't have a link for you.
 
I just browsed a bit through Dave's old Facebook posts and in April 2011 he said in a comment that they were planned for the end of 2012, so I guess they probably will be the final three novels of 2012 like you said.

Can't wait for any of these. Especially the Voyager one. Kirsten's previous three books have been among the best TrekLit ever.
 
It definitely looks like next year is gonna be a good one. At this point, other than KRAD I think all of my favorite authors have a book coming out.

Except that typically a publishing year is February through January. Typhon Pact was an "end of 2010" series and it ran Oct. '10 through Jan. '11.

That's not relevant to my point. A publishing year is defined as February through January. The January book is considered the final book of the previous publishing year. So an "end of 2012" trilogy could be Nov '12 - Jan '13 instead of Oct-Dec '12.
 
^ My point was that these things rarely seem to be planned that way. I get the sense that it makes more monetary sense to have the whole trilogy out before Christmas, though that could just be a theory of mine.

Certainly, Marco called Destiny an end-of-year trilogy, and that was scheduled October > December. Granted, there's new leadership now, but next year already it seems like a previous pattern is continuing: that January slot is usually used on reprints or niche books that don't have the same draw as the main series. The third Errand of Fury book dropped in January, for example. The Strange New World reprints dropped in January. I always got the feeling that the January release was like the graveyard slot on TV; books released there weren't expected to do as well.
 
All I'm saying is that "end of 2012" is ambiguous. I'm not saying it couldn't be Oct-Dec, just that we can't assume that yet from the information we have.

And I conveyed that by using not one, but two words (guess & probably) making clear that it's just guesswork on our part, so why did you make your initial post sound as if we were totally wrong, if you agree that it's ambiguous and the OCT-DEC slots are a possibility?

Especially since Dave said it on his Facebook page, and, while most of those following TrekLit on the Internet probably know it, I doubt that he expects anybody reading his Facebook wall to be aware about who the publishing year works.

I don't know why it sounded to you like that. All I was doing was offering more information for consideration. Maybe it's just that so many people on the Internet do default to argument and confrontation, so that when I come along and simply try to offer a bit of information, people assume there's some kind of hostility behind it.
