Can't you tell us a little more about these pictures, like where they come from, who took them, when, and so forth? Also, why they are so significant?

The title of this thread is absurd though, since cameras did not exist in ancient times.

It's from a historical movie about queen Suriyothai from a movie called "The Legend of Suriyothai".

So they're not actually of Ancient Siam. Just of a movie attempting to replicate it? I could have posted pictures of Gladiator and said they were of Ancient Rome. Doesn't mean they are.

As far as the movie goes, if I knew more about Siam I could comment. Unfortunately, I don't know how faithfully the movie reproduced things.

Actually, the ancient Siam may have look even better... This was a movie set and budget was limited.

That was based on the Rattanakosin era after the fall of Ayohdya. Everybody that lived during Rattanakosin era all said that Ayohdya period were a lot more floral and beautiful. It was the height of Siamese arts and literature.

I see what you did there :shifty:

So it isn't ancient Siam or really necessarily all that close to ancient Siam?

BTW, what time period is considered "Ancient" Siam? Is it anything before the colonial period or is there some middle period as well?

Probably Ayohdya period and Sukothai period would be considered ancient. Sukothai is older, though. Lanna Kingdoms in northern Thailand dated back even before Sukothai.

So 13th to 16th Centuries AD. Around the time of Ram Khamhaeng, right? I don't know if that's exactly Ancient, just pre-modern. Basically, before the western powers showed up and started trying to have influence.

So what's the movie about? Since that's really the point of this thread, should you want to discuss that? Why should we care about some set photos of some movie? Are they particularly realistic, etc?

I thought you were going to show us 19th C photos of Siam. :wtf:

Those might be interesting. Easy enough to google em up, tho...

Haha, I've been thinking about that song the whole time during this thread, so thanks for posting out loud, so to speak, what I was just thinking, Nery Myk. These old Wings videos are always slightly embarassing, though, aren't they. Good old Paul doesn't move around that much during live performances anymore.
