Social Security in the red this year...bankrupt by 2037

Take some guy who invested in "petsocks.com" and lost $10 billion in borrowed money.

Fuck him! It's his own damn fault that he invested in a crap site. Let him starve. Why should the government him?

Most poor people are poor becasue of bad life decisions. They decided to do heroin, or stay drunk, or skip school, or gamble on the ponies. Out of compassion we still help and provide for them. So why won't we pay off the $10 billion dollar debt of a guy who was just down on his luck?

I say we need to address the people who owe billions of dollars first!

Social Security just needs to die... might as well take advantage of the fact that we already know there won't me any money left for the people currently footing the bill. The payroll deductions are bad enough already.

The working poor which includes myself...well right now I am the non-working poor...needs to find a way to make it own their own...which includes me...I know people right now who get money from SS and it is sad that they let themselves get to a place where they have to have it and need it so desperately. At the end of the day we are responsible for our selves and our own well being...not the government.

Again, that's not an option for millions of people. What are they to do? Go die in the bushes?

It's time to send all the old people to the moon.

Perhaps Soylent Green is a solution. We can get rid of the individuals who are no longer contributing to society and solve the world wide hunger problem at the same time.

I would like to point out that if millionaires are claiming SS, there's a good chance most of them are Republicans. That is all.

The system can be put back on a full "pay go basis" with an approximately 5-7% increase in FICA, which would only be 3-4% from the employee portion.

Thats just one of the many ways the fund can be made solvent again. Some minor means testing, small retirement age increase, and a few points increase in the FICA rate fixes everything.

Why everyone has to panic and go ballistic is beyond me.

The folks I know who work for social security aren't all that worried. This'll get fixed, without all of the "sky is falling" nonsense. If half of the hand-wringing predictions came true about 10 percent of the time, SSA would have been bankrupt in 1980.

Don't unemployment benefits come directly from payroll withholding anyway? In other words, isn't it just getting back forcibly-saved money that's yours anyway?

We seem to have a different idea about those who invested in crap homes. We bail them out.

That's an amazing generalization. Are most rich people rich because their mommas and daddies were rich?
I hear this frequently from liberals, but I've never seen a study to back it up. The only study I have seen, and this came to me second hand, showed that ~80% (if I remember right, anyway) of millionaires grew up in lower class or middle class homes.

That's my point. Generalizations are useless.
