So who was waiting for Pike to "BEEP" at Kirk's award ceremony??

So at the end of this film, is Pike as badly injured as he was in "The Menagerie"? Obviously in that ep, there was no chance Pike would ever recover. What about now? If he's in a wheelchair in Trek's time, where medical science is obviously far beyond ours, then it must still be pretty serious. Could new Pike ever get well enough to return to duty at all, let alone command a ship or fleet?

Heck, can this Pike even *speak* anymore (now that he's injured), or does he really have to do the beep/beep-beep thing? :(

*Raises hand!* I loved that they ended with Pike in a wheelchair. It did feel very much like one day he'd be more decrepit and bleeping beep.

Baba, I got the impression Pike was also much older. But that's just an impression.

Again, I think canon is out the window, so it'll be exciting to see what happens next. Glad to hear he's an admiral. But sorry he doesn't get to live with his favorite Orion slave girl.

I'm not following.

Are you suggesting there's a jump forward of many years at the end of the film? Because I haven't heard anything about that. A week or two at most. Pike's injuries are apparently the direct result of his experiences in the film. And what I want to know is, is he hurt as badly as the original was in "Menagerie"? Obviously, that Pike was never going to recover. What about this one?

I thought the same thing too... even said "What the fuck... he's supposed to go beep beep..." the dude sitting next to me laughed. But since he was more or less walking when he was rescued, I take it that he was merely recovering and will be able to walk later on.

But I did expect him to look messed up like he did in the Menagarie due to his torture.

Rotten Tomatoes has a clip of Bruce where he says he's really glad he wasn't limited to beeping.

You know who you are!;)
I half-expected Pike to have a charred body and be limited to beeping. But I'm glad he wasn't.

The beeping in The Menagerie was really stupid. If a man can beep, then he can use Morse code to convey any message he wants.

And if Pike's mind was still as active as the Commodore said it was, then any Vulcan could have done a mind meld with Pike and cured him (or at the very least, conveyed him to a new body, like what happened with Spock in ST III).

I haven't seen it yet.

Ordinary wheelchair. No beeping. He could talk. He could move his arms. Since he was walking, although with assistance, when we last see him chairless, the chair was probably just for recovery (and a TOS reference).

It could have been very cute or very stupid if after talking to Kirk, he spun around to leave and there were a few cadets in his way and he went "beepbeep".

If they woulda had him beep that would of been terrible....!!!!

Now if his wheelchair squeaked or maybe a cell phone (something like that) beeped in the backround...that would of been funny...but cadets beeping as he goes by would of just confused the general audience.

Sort of.

They should've had him seriously injured by Delta Radiation, putting him in there chair. This would make it a lot more plausable that he'd be bumped in favor of Kirk for command of the Enterprise.
