both the Doctor and the Daleks don't reconise each other. I am just going on that snippet I know, but it does sound like a man having a sudden realisation of who/what he's dealing with rather than someone who knows full well what a Dalek is

^ Exactly. They were designed by Ray Cusick, who was a BBC employee at the time, so they have a stake in the physical appearance.

And did not get much out of that like Nation and BBC did...he's the real unsung hero.

And sadly is still upset about it, or at least was a couple of years ago when I met him. He's the one who hasn't benefitted at all from the success the Daleks had, most unfair given that his design is arguably more responsible for that success than Nation's scripts.

Damn, I had no idea how badly Ray Cusick got shafte on this. It seems like more people know that Ridley Scott was offered to design them than that Ray Cusick actually designed them.
