So.....What's Your Theory on the Anomalies?

Something new, or a bleed through caused by the spore drive.

I did think red matter, but only because they said it was red.

Maybe a species that lives in the Mycelial Network, Discovery's spore drive has harmed them and they are attempting to communicate / retaliate? That's where my mind went when I read "bleed through."

I posted in another thread but I think they are portals to something that will be described as Hell in keeping with the Science vs Faith angle. I also think Spock is inside one of them, exploring and rescuing him will be major arc of the show for at least the first 5 episodes before they went on that break and the old writers got fired.

Another thing inside might be that earth colony with the tombstones that was in that pic awhile back. This would at least create a location to set some character drama on that is inside the red portals.

Not a clue, at least not enough of one for me to speculate. However, I did find it interesting that the anomalies are spread across "30,000 light years" of space. That's obviously much bigger than the scope of the Federation — and, indeed, of its neighboring empires. Indeed, the fact that the UFP even detected it in "real time" requires us to infer that it has a network of subspace sensors considerably more widespread than we had previous reason to believe.

Why something spread across such a distance is of particular concern to the UFP, much less to Spock in particular, I can't begin to guess. I only hope the writers come up with some kind of answer that makes the quest worthwhile. In the meantime, it should at least be interesting to see the crew venturing out into "the frontier" for a change.

That would be interesting for sure. Which pic are you talking about with tombstones? I missed that one?

The line that interested me was Burnham's mention of being open to it, in essence believing in it, as she seems to be watching that X-files like alien-in-glowy-light. I'm guessing this is our science/religion allegory, something which either requires or engenders some form of faith.

I'm not sure were it is right now but it was the one that kind of has a Amish village look to it. I recall people weren't happy with some of the names on the tombstones because they were to American sounding.

The image on the discovery’s view screen reminded me of the spore star in the centre of the Charon

Any theories? Red Matter? Signals? A Species we've seen before? Any theories? 3, 2, 1 and go!
Reposting what I said in the teaser trailer thread:

I think they may be setting up a merge of the Kelvinverse and the Primeverse.

Those sure looked a hell of a lot like Red Matter detonations in that region of space where they were going to investigate the galaxy-threatening emergency situation. And it's somehow tied to YoungPrimeSpock in a way and caused his leave of absence. What if the death of OldPrimeSpock in the Kelvinverse somehow caused a psychic connection to form through the Mycelial Network underlying the universe and connecting all points in time and space, including alternate universes, and that summoned YoungPrimeSpock to the source of the Red Matter events, much like V'Ger would later call to him from across the galaxy?

Much like how Abrams said the ripples from the event that formed the Kelvinverse traveled both forwards and backwards through time, it could be used as a justification for the aesthetic and historical changes in DSC and bring the two disparate timelines into alignment, simplifying things and allowing people from both universes to appear without having to create any more elaborate Treknobbable justifications to do so after this initial event.

I think it's basically setting up the Trek version of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Of course, I'm just talking out of my ass here and may be reading too much into it, but with all the Kelvinverse nods (the Kelvinverse warp effect, Pike saying "hit it!", the Red Matter supernova-like explosions, and the connection that draws in PrimeSpock) that was the first vibe I was getting from the trailer.

I am still placing my bets on the Redjek aliens from "Wolf in the Fold" being the danger, inside. I mentioned in another thread also I think the energy particle is basically going to possess Tilly and make her go evil.

Michael mentioned only people who are open can understand the mysteries of the stars (or words to that effect)

Maybe the red anomalies are

...

The force
