So What the Frak Is 12 Going to Be Called?

I hope nobody else already had this idea (I don't have the time to browse through the entire thread), but how about...

Star Trek XII: It's Trek, Jim, but not as we know it

With them usurping the Star Trek title for this film (which is one of my few major qualms with it; I'm willing to give it a chance, I just dislike the usurping of the name and one or two other little things) my question is... what the frak are they going to do for 12?

I mean, can they call it Star Trek 2, or something? Or would that just be confusing as hell?

They could go back to the no-number sub-title route, like Generations through Nemesis.

They could go modern Batman route, and after Star Trek (Begins) do something like "Where No Man Has Gone Before" as a title...

Still... it feels like they didn't think this thing out.

By using just "Star Trek" it's going to eventually confuse some folks, between film and TOS. Not the fans, but the new people who might decide to become Trekkies. Since they're going to have to face the problem with the next film, theoretically... why didn't they just sub-title this film?

Star Trek: The Future Begins

Star Trek Begins

You know?

*Shrug*

I'd die laughing if they, even as a joke, gave the film next the working title "Star Trek 12: So Very Tired"

Honestly, I like the idea of just calling it Star Trek. If they add a subtitle, then you have people wondering if they need to see the other films.

And, frankly, it wouldn't be accurate to call this Star Trek XI. This film isn't a sequel to Star Trek: The Motion Picture, nor is it a sequel to Star Trek Generations; it's a new film based upon the original series.

What'll they call the next one? I dunno. Does it even have to include the words "Star Trek" in the title, really? I mean, none of the James Bond films have actually had his name in the title, but that doesn't stop anyone from knowing when a new Bond movie is coming out. It wasn't called Batman: The Dark Knight, but everyone knew it was a Batman movie.

There's no particular reason that it couldn't be called The Final Frontier, or These Are the Voyages or Strange New Worlds, or To Boldly Go, or Where No Man Has Gone Before, (or Live Long and Prosper, or Fascinating, or He's Dead, Jim, or I'm A Doctor, Not A...), or any number of other Trek-unique titles.

I'm really surprised that they're calling this 2009 movie just "Star Trek"... which naturally fueled this thread on the speculation of what they'd call a sequel. Maybe there just won't be. ;)

Alien --> Aliens --> Alien 3 --> Alien Resurrection
so,
Star Trek --> Star Treks --> Star Trek Resurrection
or,
Star Trek --> Star Trek Continues --> Star Trek Ends

Gee, Star Trek XI hasn't even been out yet and we are already discussing XII :)

Welcome to the Internet. :)

Personally, I'd get a kick out of it if they called the next one just These Are the Voyages. I know that it's a title with a bad history (the ENT finale), but I've always thought that that was actually a really good title in and of itself, and it would be appropriate.

Oh and we should already know what 12 is going to be called. It was predicted on the Simpsons back in the 90's as "Star Trek XII: So Very Tired"
