So What Military Branches Do The SGU Characters Belong?

I still find it odd that they made Greer a Master Sergeant. Jamil Walker Smith seems a little young to be an E-8. Staff Sergeant might have been more appropriate.

When I first took over my platoon in 1985 the E7 Platoon Sergeant who was promoted to First Sergeant 8 months later was 32 years old. His replacement was 27. I did have a couple of E6 Staff Sergeants as tank commanders who were older then all of us.

SGC is set in a universe at war. Both on Earth and off world. Rank should come faster then my peace time experience.

That's true. Maybe Greer was in Iraq or Afghanistan for a while and rose up the ranks pretty quickly.

I didn't mean to suggest that it was impossible for Greer to be a Master Sergeant, just a little odd because of the actor's age. Then again, Jamil Smith may be 27, but that doesn't necessarily mean Greer has to be the same age.

Which branch were you in, Star Wolf? Just curious. :techman:

US Army, 37th Armored Regiment mostly out of Fort Riley Kansas

Tbh at this point, I'm surprised the Stargate producers haven't tried to sell us on a totally separate branch for Stargate military ops - after all, it really is a totally different concept to any of the existing branches, it would make some sort of sense. Of course, it would be hard to hide a totally 'new' branch of the military from the public without questions being asked, I suppose.

it's coming, its called Starfleet! :) :)

United Nations Space Command would probably be more likely. :shifty:

I can't see the program still being secret if the UN General Assembly knew. Two wars have already been fought against "false gods".

I have no doubt that they know USAF uniforms, but I've already noticed inconsistencies with uniforms of other services in the past (such as incorrectly worn patches on Army uniforms)
I've only been a casual viewer but when have any US soldiers or sailors been involved with SGC? I've seen USAF, Russians, and USMC and a few foreign flags on Atlantis.

There was a line in an Atlantis episode (Runner) where McKay mentions there is an Army and Navy presence on Atlantis. We the audience just never saw them, only Air Force and Marines.

We also saw someone in Naval dress uniform in the SGC briefing room on one of their 'world in peril' episodes. I think it was Redemption but I may be wrong on that one.

Toward the beginning of Air I, Scot says Young put him in charge and he expects all SGC personnel to obey his orders.

That says, to me, that the SCC recruits military personnel from all branches (including foreign personel - remember the episode with the Russian cosmonaut?) and absorbs them into the SGC.

However, when they write home to their parents, and their parents write back, they are given a military address that corresponds with the branch of the military they were recruited from and all photos sent home would be with similar uniforms to the ones they had before.

You know ... all that cover up stuff.

SG-25 was wearing ACUs, so one can assume they were Army. Also there would have to be a navy presence since the Marines have no medical branch. Corpsman (medics) and combat surgeons are Navy.

How big are the gate teams? I have only had a good look at one team and that 4 man Spec Ops team (the SAS model?) did not have a corpsman/medic. By Navy I guess we all mean SEALS and/or fighter pilot/ship crewmen, not the corpsman, JAGs and Chaplains assigned to USMC units.

The actual NORAD operations based at Peterson Air Force Base (and until recently at the real Cheyenne Mountain) does include service members from all branches of the military, with the previous commander being a Navy admiral. So it is reasonable to think that the SGC would incorporate personnel from from the Army, Navy and the Marines in addition to the Air Force.
