I just finished rereading Ex Machina by Christopher L. Bennett. It's probably my favorite TOS Trek novel. I wish that there were more novels like this filling in the time period between The Motion Picture and The Wrath of Khan.

Never read that, but I've read Image of the Beast/Blown. Judging by the description at wikipedia, though, Feast makes them sound like a saunter through the park.
