So what are you reading now? (Part 3)

I have recently finished both Precipice (5/5) and Naomi Novik's third Temeraire novel "Black Powder War" (3/5).

Now reading TNG no9: A Call to Darkness. Might read something else as well, not sure what yet.

Oddly enough, after reading a few posts here, I'm waiting to read the two '4400 continuation' novels from Greg Cox and then David Mack, before making my way onto the Empire of Sorrow.

You should definitely read Welcome to Promise City. It's a great book that actually "feels" like an episode of the show. It also has some very interesting development and acts as a bit of a set up for Promises Broken. I haven't read Promises Broken yet but I plan to pretty soon, I just need to find a place in my reading schedule. If you haven't read the other two 4400 novels, The Vesuvius Prophecy and Wet Work, I strongly recommend them as well. They both take place during the series, so they don't really make any changes, but they're both good reads. The Vesuvius Prophecy is about someone with an interesting ability and it has a tie to D.B. Cooper. Wet Work is about a 4400/assassin known as "the Wraith".

Oh, and it's Sorrows of Empire. I don't mean to be nitpicky, I just wanted to point out the correct title. I haven't read the original yet, and I want to do that before I read the expanded novel so I can see what the changes are. I just don't know when I'll get the chance. I've still got a lot of Trek reading to catch up on.

You could very easily have asked him why he feels the need to read a series of books to enhance his "bashing" of it in that case, if in fact you did think his comment was tongue in cheek. Better yet, you could have just not commented on it in the first place.

Amen.

Just finished The Romulan War-heading on to the next Vanguard novel today if I can make it to the bookstore.

You should definitely read Welcome to Promise City. It's a great book that actually "feels" like an episode of the show.

Yeah - I didn't want it to end there, I wanted at least some tie-up. Will see what these two books do.

And apologies for the title-munging on the Sorrows of Empire. I swear I got it the right way round in my head, but my fingers were travelling at impulse... ;)

I'm reading World War Z by Max Brooks

As soon as I finish this I'm going to read the TNG relaunch before I get too far behind.

Reading The Captain's Table and finished Riker's story (wasn't so impressed with it). Also, in middle of reading the new Stephen King book: Under the Dome. After that, I hope to jump into Grisham's latest: Ford County.

Though if I go away for the next few weekends, I might take Sorrows of Empire and read that since it's easy to pack and carry around. :)

I finished Star Trek: Vanguard: Precipice. I really enjoyed it. I then read The Return of Sherlock Holmes: Adventure of the Missing Three-Quarter. It isn't all that interesting, but it's not bad either. I'm now reading Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Never-Ending Sacrifice. I've not got far enough yet to really say whether it's good or not (I'm sure it is though). I'll then be reading the next Holmes story, The Adventure of the Abbey Grange. After that it's on to Star Trek: Myriad Universes: Echoes and Refractions: The Chimes at Midnight.

Reading Gateways 2, Challenger: Chainmail at the moment. I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying it; I think Carey really had something here. It's a shame it didn't go any further.

Just finished the second Errand of Fury book. It was OK, but I thought the climax was a little bit of a let-down, though a good resolution. Starting the final volume. I've enjoyed the Vengeance/Fury series overall, but will be glad to move on...want to start on the DS9 relaunch....

I'm currently re-reading the DS9 anthology Prophecy and Change. Just finished the story about the Jake and Ziyal's relationship during the Dominion occupation of DS9.

It has been years since I pulled this book out, and with several mentions of it on this board and elsewhere, I figured I'd get it out again. Glad I did.

Next up is the expanded Sorrows of Empire, once it arrives from Amazon. Really looking forward to it!

I've finished Star Trek Vanguard - Precipice. I really liked it. Too bad we have to wait so long for a new installment.
Instead of returning to Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra of which I've finished the first part, I've started reading Doctor Who - The Nightmare of Black Island by Mike Tucker and A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle.

I'm just about to start the last book (Enterprise) in the My Brother Keeper trilogy.

The books are pretty good reads, a lot of very interesting back stories there. I can get through them quite quickly, they're light reads.

I just finished the second book last night (Constitution). It was a good book, although not as good as Republic. There wasn't enough Kirk/Gary in the second one. Although they came to a great character arc right at the end.

I have high hopes for Enterprise

Just finished reading the Deep Space Nine novel #21 Trial By Error. While I refuse to call it "awful" it wasn't my personal cup of a tea. The story had potential but wasn't executed correctly.

I am now reading the TNG graphic novel The Last Generation

I've finished reading The Last Generation and I will now begin reading The Sorrow Empire

I have finished The Last Generation and will now begin read David Mack's The Sorrows of Empire
