So what are you reading now? Part 2

$75 for 97 books :eek:?!? Amazing pull dude :techman:. That's the cheapest I've ever seen that many treklit books go for. Where is this store?

Crosslines Essential Field Guides to humanitarian and conflict zones. Afghanistan Second Edition - 2004 - fully revised.

Lowry's, a used bookstore up in Three Rivers, Michigan. A goldmine for old, used books. He really wanted to get rid of them. He was selling them anywhere between 1.75 and 2.25. But He said I could have all the ones I had picked for 75 bucks, after tax.
Looks like I'll have plenty of time to read too, work is just slowing to a crawl.

I'm reading a lot of nonfiction on ancient Egypt for writing research, but when I need a break, I'm rereading the TITAN books. I just bought Synthesis, so I wanted to refresh my memory. I'm in the middle of Orion's Hounds now.

I just threw across the room Troublesome Minds. About halfway through, I couldn't take reading it anymore. The juvenile level at which it was written was annoying, and the fact that I didn't care about the characters (most of the Enterprise crew not included) made it worse. Clearly it was Nimoy's Spock on the cover of the book and I thought I would scream when the author referred to "Spock's coal black eyes" again and again. Were we watching the same actor? I don't know what happened at the end, and at this point, I don't care. I will probably skip to the end (maybe) and read the climax since I spent money on the book.

Awesome haul. I recently was able to get almost all of the numbered TOS books at two stores, and I similarly had the experience of a store owner just wanting to get rid of them. After getting about 40 of the paperbacks, I came up with a pile of the hardcovers, and he said, just take 'em.

Enjoy, though I think you may not want to read them in order. There are some clunkers in there. I made it to Battlestations, and decided to check out the unnumbered era for a while.

So far I've read Covenant of the Crown, The Prometheus Design, The Abode of Life, and I'm currently on The Entropy Effect.
I'd say that Crown is my favorite so far. Prometheus Design was just too strange, and Abode of Life was just kinda "meh"

I read the script for An Education; it was okay....

I just finished a Dresden Files graphic novel which was pretty good; I forget the name at the moment....

Right now--not right, right now, mind you, since I can't type and listen at the same time--I'm listening to the SW:Episode III audiobook. It does a lot of explaining, and expanding...and the writing is pretty good...

I picked up the novelization for The Two Doctors and Trials and Tribble-ations so I can see how the authors explained certain scenes or situations onscreen...

So, you live in the Mirror Universe, then? :)

I loved the book, thought it was great.

I wasn't to impressed, either. It's been a while so I can't say why exactly anymore. 'Meh' describes my feelings about the book. I hope Dave Galanter doesn't read this.

I've started the new Titan book Synthesis, but I've only just started so I can't comment on it just yet.

^^

That may be another I will have to read again.

Many of us find something that appeals to us in these Trek novels; of course, you have some that ARE indeed written well or poorly.

The only Trek novel that is a mainstay in my collection right now is Mutiny on the Enterprise...with the six-book 'Errand of' series following soon.

I'm real picky.

Currently reading Treason's River, the third (and apparently last) in The Reluctant Adventures of Martin Jerrold, a somewhat more humourous than usual take on Napoleonic era historical fiction. Also recently read another of Harlequin's reprints of old non-romance Harlequins, a highly formulaic but still enjoyable noir novel called Pardon My Body by Dale Bogard. Murders, red herrings, gangsters, and of course a femme fatale. Not a new wrinkle on the genre to be found anywhere, but it rattles along quickly enough to be entertaining.

I liked Troublesome Minds, myself....
Me too. I thought it did a great job of catching the feel of a TOS episode. IMO it was probably one of the most-like Trek books I've read, which is kind of a nice change of pace.

Since I only had 10 pages left of Dresden Files: Fool Moon, I started Vanguard: Precipce during my breaks at work today.

And do they sell online? I still have all my Trek books, but who knows what other stuff they sell that I may be looking for?

And do they sell online?
No, but I've been selling off my sizable Star Trek collection, including books. I'm taking a break this week, what with the holidays upon us, but I'll probably start up again next weekend. For those interested, I send out an e-mail with details, so if you want to be included, just send me a message with your e-mail address.
